14th annual event raises money for St. Louis Center

The 14th annual Golf & Glory Outing for St. Louis Center added something new this year with a benefit Celebrity Dinner tacked on to the event the night before on Monday, June 23.

Sponsored by Paesano's of Ann Arbor and owners Michael and Bridget Roddy; the event far exceeded expectations with over 100 people in attendance. The entire dinner was donated for this event to benefit St. Louis Center, a residential care center for persons with developmental disabilities west of Chelsea. It is run by the Servants of Charity Congregation who are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year.
Celebrity servers from the community included Fr. Joseph Rinaldo, S.C., Fr. Enzo Addari, S.C., Chelsea Mayor Ann Feeney, St. Louis Center Board Members Paul Frisinger, Norm Neuman, Tom Nowatzke, Chairman - Ken Unterbrink, and Public Relations Director Joseph Yekulis.
Each server was asked to fill a table of 10, and Paesano's included the meal. Diners were treated to spaghetti with meatballs, salad, warm rolls, and a soft drink or a glass of wine. Strolling Italian musicians added to the atmosphere of the event, and the celebrity waiters were assisted by Paesano's professional wait staff. At the end of the event, the Roddy's were presented with an "Outstanding Community Service" award from Fr. Joseph and Fr. Enzo for all that they have contributed to the quality of life for the residents of St. Louis Center.
On Tuesday, June 24, the Golf and Glory Outing was held at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, and was supported by 110 golfers. Many of these golfers were Detroit Lions Alumni, current and former referees from the professional and college ranks, and members of the broadcast media. Honorary Celebrity Chair George Blaha (Pistons/MSU) was on hand to help kick-off the dinner event, and Ken Kal, voice of the Detroit Red Wings, was in attendance for the first time.
Tom Nowatzke, Detroit Lions Alumni Chair, introduced the many guests for the day that included Darren Banks (Bruins), Dorne Dibble (Lions), Bill Dufek (U of M), Dick Honig (Big Ten Ref), Ken Kal (Red Wings), Ron Kramer (Packers-U of M), Dean Look (NFL Ref), John Panelli (Lions), Paul Seymour (Lions/Bills-U of M), Dave Smith (Steelers), Bob Waggoner (NFL Ref), Bill Wagner (Broncos), Tim Walton (Lions), Stanley Wilson (Lions-Active), Ron Winter (NFL Ref), and Dave Witvoet (Big Ten Ref).
Following 18 holes of golf, the players were treated to a steak dinner and a live auction of sports memorabilia conducted by local auctioneer David Helmer of Saline. Finally, the end of the evening was capped off by a tribute to St. Louis Center from Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano, delivered by a member of his executive staff from Detroit.
