Xplosion reach tournament championship

Dexter's U-14 Xplosion softball team participated in a tournament in Charlevoix last month. The local squad played well, finishing 2-1 in pool play and advancing to the tournament semifinals.

In its opener, Dexter defeated the Petoskey Blaze 9-2. Megan Flocken recorded the win from the circle throwing six innings, allowing five hits, fanning six and walking two.
At the plate, Annalise Dobbs, Madelyn Scafasci and Alexa Ransom each had two singles. Nichole Jackson and Chantal Singer each added one single.
Defensively, the Xplosion were strong committing only one error.
In its second game, Dexter lost to eventual tournament runner-up the Milan Queen of Diamonds 5-4. The Xplosion led 4-2 heading into the final inning, but couldn't to secure the victory.
Taylor Hansen absorbed the loss from the rubber surrendering five hits, striking out five and walking one.
Offensively, Chelsea Lund had a double, while Jackson and Ransom each had a single.
In Game 3 of pool play, Dexter defeated the Traverse City Waves 8-4. Jackson and Flocken combined for the win from the circle. Jackson gave up five hits and struck out two, while Flocken allowed three hits and fanned four.
With the stick, Megan Sweetland, Hansen, Ransom and Singer each connected for two singles. Scafasci added a two-run home run and a single, while Shannon Callery, Flocken and Jackson each had a single.
In the tournament quarterfinals, the Xplosion defeated Traverse City West 5-4. Hansen picked up the win tossing a two-hitter over six innings, walking one and striking out six.
Singer, Jackson, Callery and Sweetland each had a single.
In the semifinals, Dexter lost to eventual tournament champion the MBS Jets 3-1.
Hansen suffered the loss throwing all six innings, yielding five hits, one earned run, striking out seven and walking none in an impressive performance.
At the plate, Singer doubled, while Lund, Ransom and Sweetland each singled.
Earning MVP awards for the games were Hanson, Jackson, Lund and Sweetland.
In the final, the MBS Jets beat the Milan Queen of Diamonds 12-2.
Also last month, Dexter competed in the Grand Blanc Summer Slam Tournament. The Xplosion finished 2-1 in pool play and advanced to the tournament championship game.

Leading the attack for the Xplosion was Jackson with a triple and two singles. Carly Glahn added two singles, while Hansen, Lund, Callery, Sweetland, Singer and Flocken each had one single.
In Game 2 of pool play, Dexter lost to the Mid-Michigan Chaos 5-4. Flocken, Jackson and Hansen each pitched allowing no earned runs.
At the plate, Jackson, Hansen, Glahn, Sweetland and Singer each singled, while Ransom doubled.
In their third pool game, the Xplosion beat the St. Clair Stars 11-10. Jackson and Hansen combined for the win from the circle.
Callery led the way with a double and single, while Lund and Flocken each had two singles. Hansen, Jackson, Ransom and Scafasci each added singles.
