Church ice cream social

Zion Lutheran Church, 3050 S. Fletcher Road, will host its annual ice cream social from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
A full menu will be offered, and the event will take place rain or shine.
Scio Fire open house
The celebrate 20 years of operation, the Scio Fire Department is holding an open house on July 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Visitors can meet the department's personnel; witness live demos including a car fire and try out some standard issue firefighter equipment.
Special guest include the University of Michigan survival flight, Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department officers and Huron Valley Ambulance personnel.
There will also be food and refreshments.
The station is located at 1055 N. Zeeb Road.
Fund-raising bike ride
Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society's One Helluva Ride is a favorite of many local and out-of-state riders.
This year's event, on July 12, is expected to draw more than 2,000 riders.
Fun rides (15 and 30) miles, and 18,- 19- or 37-mile fat tire rides start at Portage Lake. Other rides, including 39, 63, 76 and 100 miles, begin at the Chelsea Fairgrounds.
Registration is from 6:45 to 10 a.m. at Chelsea Fairgrounds and 8 to 11:45 a.m. at Portage Lake. Pre-registration can be made at www.aabts.org.
There will be snack and lunch stops along the routes.

Parks Commission vacancy
The Village of Dexter Parks Commission has a vacancy for a term to expire in June of 2010.
The Parks Commission is responsible for advising the Village Council on parks and recreation activities within the Village of Dexter and for preparing and implementing the Village of Dexter Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
The Parks Commission meets the third Tuesday of every month at 7 pm at the Village Offices.
Interested individuals should submit an application at the Village Offices, 8123 Main Street, Dexter, MI 48130 or abishop@villageofdexter.org.
