On June 11, the Dreadnaughts lost 1-0 to Bloomfield Hills Lahser in the state semifinals at Bloomfield Hills Andover. The Knights went on to lose to Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central 1-0 in a shootout in the state championship game.
Against Lahser, Dexter allowed the game-winning goal seven minutes into the first half.
"Our defense made a mistake that Lahser took advantage of," said Dexter coach Scott Forrester.
In the second half, the Dreadnaughts added another forward to their attack upping the pressure on the Knights' defense. Despite a fevered attempt, Dexter was unable to break the Lahser defensive stranglehold.
"We wanted more for this senior class, since this was their third straight loss in the state semifinals," Forrester said. "At this level, one mistake will determine the game. I should have done a better job preparing my players for this."
Forrester said though it was an agonizing loss, he was proud of his team.
"The adversity we faced with all of the injuries that occurred, the players never used it as an excuse, but instead stepped up and did whatever they could to help the team succeed," he said. "I would like to thank and wish our seniors the best in their future endeavors."
Dexter finished the season with an overall record of 16-3-2.
