Dreads ousted from regional

Dexter's girls' water polo team defeated Okemos 8-5 in state regional competition last week. The Dreadnaughts finished 2-1 in the regional ending their season.

"We wanted to end the weekend on a high note," said Dexter coach Brian Semple. "Our seniors came out with a lot of passion and intensity, and their teammates rallied around them helping them to succeed."
Scoring for the Dreadnaughts was Kelsey Johnson with three goals for a hat trick and Natalie Fluent with two goals.
Also scoring for Dexter were Jessie Boren, Erin Donevan and Paige Sheats.
The Dreadnaughts led 3-1 after one quarter.
At halftime, Dexter continued leading 5-3.
After three quarters, the Dreads remained ahead 6-4.
In the fourth quarter, Dexter outscored the Chieftains 2-1 for the night's final margin.
Recording the win in net for Dexter was Emily Wetzel. Wetzel made six saves.
The Dreadnaughts also defeated Holt/East Lansing 5-1 in regional play last week.
In the first quarter, both clubs battled to a 1-1 tie. Scoring for Dexter was Boren.
After a scoreless second quarter, the Dreadnaughts broke open the game with three goals in the third frame.
In the fourth quarter, Dexter added another goal for the contest's ending tally.
Boren led the Dreadnaught attack with two goals.
Nicole Minzey, Jenna Rolfes and Johnson each added one goal for Dexter.
Meaghan Mead earned the victory for the Dreadnaughts in net making nine saves.
"Going into the morning game, I was worried about the team coming out slow, but with lots of contributors the girls were able to push the pace and pull away," Semple said.
