Dexter third at regional

Dexter's boys' track and field team finished third overall at last Friday's Division 2 state regional meet at Livonia Ladywood.

The Dreadnaught ended up with 83 points.
Winning the 14-team meet was Adrian with 107.5 points. Ypsilanti was second with 91 points, while Milan was fourth with 80 points and Chelsea fifth with 77.5 points.
In the shot put, Michael Schultz finished seventh with a throw of 45-feet, 4 ? inches.
In the high jump, Ryan Kantola placed fourth with a state meet height of 6-2. He also was fifth in the long jump with a state meet measurement of 20-9.
Dexter, as it has all season, dominated the pole vault competition. Jeremy Horner placed second clearing a state meet 12-8. Nick Butler was third with a mark of 12-5, while Steve Ferguson was fifth with an 11-11 and John Oliver eighth with an 11-5.
Butler crossed the line seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.14. He also was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.14.
Ross Seagram ended up fourth in the 100 meters in 11.6.
Alex Hess placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a clocking of 2:03.53. He also was third in the 1,600-meter run in a state meet 4:27.23.
Bobby Aprill bested the field in the 1,600-meter run with a state meet time of 4:15.42. He also was first in the 3,200-meter run in a state meet qualifying 9:19.70.
Ben Steavenson finished second in the 3,200-meter run in a state meet 9:22.34 for Dexter, while teammate Ben Carruthers was seventh in 10:19.14.
The Dreadnaught foursome of Nick Crow, Adam Cares, Seagram and Kantola placed fifth in the 400-meter relay in 45.47.
On May 14, Dexter's JV boys' track and field team competed at the Jackson Invitational.
Andrew Herring placed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 10-6 for the Dreadnaughts.
Ian Nystrom was second in the 1,600-meter run in 4:50.
Ken Metz was first in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:11.
Dexter next travels to Ypsilanti to participate in the Meet of Champions Tuesday.
The Division 2 state meet is May 31 in Zeeland.
In the girls' regional meet at Ladywood, Dexter placed third overall with 73.5 points.
Capturing the regional title was Chelsea with 88 points.
Ypsilanti was second with 87 points, while Tecumseh was fourth with 69 points and Carleton-Airport fifth with 68 points.
Individually for the Dreadnaughts, Nyki Caldwell placed fourth in the high jump with a state meet mark of 5-1.
In the pole vault, Dexter recorded three of the top five heights. Finishing first was Becca Pilkerton clearing a state meet 11-6.
Carly Dalton was second with a mark of 9-6, while Janelle Heldt was fourth with a 9-0. Christine Murray was sixth also with a 9-0, while Stephanie Lim was seventh with a 9-0 and Maria Brundage eighth with a 9-0 for the Dreadnaughts. All qualified for the state meet.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Pilkerton was fifth in 49.07.
Mari Couasnon finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.58, while Ellen Riehle was fifth in 2:31.20 for Dexter.
Remme Cortright was second in the 1,600-meter run with a state meet clocking of 5:20.75.
In the 3,200-meter run, Kristen Yarows was fourth in 12:03.23, while Caci Dishman was sixth in 12:13.80 for the Dreadnaughts.
The Dexter quartet of Abby Hess, Yarows, Riehle and Cortright placed first in the 3,200-meter relay in a state meet 9:55.86.
The Dreadnaughts next compete in the Meet of Champions at Ypsilanti Tuesday.
