Mr. Murphy has resided in Jackson since 1994. He was a former member of St. Pius Catholic Church in Flint. He was a general foreman at A.C. Spark Plug, a member of General Motors Executive Club, Fisher Body Guild, the Clio Country Club, and the AC Bowling Association. He was also a leader in Cub Scouts & Indian Guides.

He married Norma R. Smith on Oct. 15, 1938 in Grand Blanc, and she preceded him in death on March 22, 2003. Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Juanita Murphy of Chelsea; a sister, Mary Rose Deritte of Las Vegas; two grandchildren, Matthew (Leann) Murphy of Chelsea and Ceia Murphy of Saline; 4 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Haylay, Nicholas, and Maxwell; and many nieces & nephews. A Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, May 14, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea, with Fr. Fortunato Turati and Rev. Dr. William Turner concelebrating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery, Chelsea. The family received friends at Cole Funeral Chapel Monday and Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Great Lakes Hospice.

Gerald A. Myers

Chelsea

Gerald A. Myers of Chelsea changed his address from Chelsea to Paradise on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Chelsea Community Hospital. He was 61.

He was born on May 15, 1946 in Ann Arbor, the son of Clayton and Genevieve (Valant) Myers. Mr. Myers was a Registered Land Surveyor for 30 years. He was a very active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Chelsea, a former Church Council member, Eucharistic minister, Scripture reader, Sexton of the Zion Cemetery, Zion Cemetery board member, Confirmation instructor, and served on the church property committee. He was also a participant in the Lutheran Via de Cristo movement and was a faithful servant to his Lord. Jerry loved everything about the out of doors.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a life member of the VFW Post 5319 of Athens, Mich. He was a friend to all and a father figure to many, and just in case you weren't aware, the North Pole might not be the same this year.

On June 3, 1967 he married Georgia J. Fox in Union City, Mich. and she survives. Also surviving are his mother, two daughters, Angela (Michael) Klapperich and Sheryl Myers, all of Chelsea, two granddaughters, Cassady Wilson-Klapperich and Sadie Klapperich, two nephews, Thomas (Mistel) Myers and Timothy (Shannon) Myers, both of Battle Creek.
