Village boosts senior center

The Dexter Village Council voted to donate $8,270 to the Dexter Senior Center after receiving a request letter last week.
"Over the past few years senior centers across Michigan have experienced drastic cuts in funding," Director Kim Martini wrote.
The center has attempted to raise membership dues from $10 to $20 per year and has asked for money from groups who use the center for activities.
"Even with our constant efforts to cut expenses and generate new revenue, we are falling short each month by approximately $15,000 or $18,000 per year. At this rate, we can only survive about 18 months."
The village has supported the center this way in the past. In 2006 the village gave $8,300.
Date set for rate hearings
A public hearing has been set for June 9 to discuss water and sewer rate adjustments.
The Utility Committee has determined that a 5 percent increase to water and a 3 percent increase to sewer rates for village residents are needed after conducting a recent Water and Sewer Rate Study.
The overall increase every two-month billing cycle will be $4.11 or $2.06 per month. These increases are due to the commodity value of 10,000 gallons of water increasing from $26.40 to $27.70 for water and from $63.40 to $65.30.
Illegal left turn warning
The Washtenaw County Sheriffs would like to warn the public traveling through Dexter Village's downtown district that left turns are prohibited from Main Street to Alpine and Jeffords, and from Jeffords onto Main Street.
No left turn signs have been put in place since the bridge work began, according to sheriff's officials. Despite that there are still a "significant number" of people trying to make the aforementioned left turns.
Patriotic Concert Wednesday
The 18th annual PatrioticConcert will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Cornerstone School in Dexter. The program honors veterans, police officers and firefighters.
Soccer club registrations
The Dexter Soccer Club will be holding their registration and evaluations on June 15 and 16.
Information signs will be placed at school drop offs and various churches, similarly to the Dexter Little League.
