Dexter fourth at invite, beats rival

It was a pretty good stretch for Dexter's girls' track and field team last week.

Last Friday, the Dreadnaughts finished fourth at the Mason Invitational. Prior to the Mason meet, Dexter defeated county rival Chelsea 70-66 in a dual meet April 24.

At Mason, the Dreadnaughts ended up with a total team score of 90 points.

In field events, Dexter's Becca Pilkerton finished first in the pole vault clearing 11-feet, 6 inches. Teammate Carly Dalton was second in 9-6, while Christine Murray was fourth in 8-0.

In discus, Dreadnaught Laura VanVoorhis placed fifth with a toss of 97-4.

Chantel Jennings ended up fifth in the long jump with a leap of 15-0.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Sheree Christian crossed the line fourth with a time of 17.75 for Dexter. Jennings was fifth in 18.03.

Christian finished second in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.09.

Stephanie Ward placed sixth in the 100 meters with a clocking of 14.18.

Laura Merz finished sixth in the 400-meter run in 1:07.45.

In the 800-meter run, Mari Couasnon ended up fourth with a time of 2:26.86 for Dexter.

In the 1,600-meter run, Dreadnaught Jessie Vickers finished third in 5:32.11. Teammate Abby Hess was eighth in 5:57.41.

Ellen Riehle was third in the 3,200-meter run with a clocking of 12:16.01, while Kristen Yarows was fourth in 12:36.69 for Dexter.

In the 400-meter relay, the Dread foursome of Karly Sherwood, Jacqueline McNally, Ward and Jennings finished fourth in 55.87.

Olympia Taheri, Christi Olton, Merz and Ward placed eighth in the 800-meter relay in 1:59.26.

In the 1,600-meter relay, Dexter's Christian, Murray, Pilkerton and Couasnon crossed the line fourth in 4:17.46.

On April 24, the host Dreadnaughts defeated Chelsea 70-66 in a dual meet.

In field events, Pilkerton placed first in the pole vault, with a mark of 11-6. Dalton was second with a 10-6, while Murray was third to complete the sweep with a 9-6.

Jennings finished first in the long jump with a leap of 15-3.

In the high jump, Dexter's Sherri Gamble placed second reaching a height of 4-6. Jennings and Pilkerton tied for third each with a 4-4.

VanVoorhis was third in the discus with a toss of 90-0. Rachel Moir was third in the shot put for the Dreads with a heave of 28-8 ?.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Christian finished first in 17.20, while Jennings was second in 17.79.

Christian again broke the tape first in the 300-meter hurdle with a clocking of 51.32. Pilkerton was second in 52.35.

Couasnon was third in the 200 meters in 27.90. She also placed second in the 400-meter run in 1:01.64, while Murray was third in 1:04.03.

In the 800-meter run, Melany Mioduszewski finished first in 2:27.87, while Riehle was second in 2:30.51.

In the 1,600-meter run, the Dreadnaughts finished 1-2-3, with Vickers first in 5:36.22, followed by Riehle in second in 5:36.73 and Yarows in 5:41.86.

Mioduszewski broke the tape first in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:53.13. Vickers was second in 12:31.63.

Dexter placed first in the 3,200-meter relay in 10:35.73.

The Dreadnaughts next compete in the Golden Triangle meet Saturday at 10 a.m.

On Wednesday, Dexter will participate in the Southeastern Conference Jamboree 1 p.m. at Saline.
