Dreads compete at Mason Invitational

Dexter's boys' track and field team competed at last Friday's prestigious Mason Invitational, scoring 92 points.

In field events, Dreadnaught Larry Gunderson placed first in the pole vault clearing 13-feet. Teammate Adam Cares finished fourth with a height of 11-0.
In the high jump, Dexter's Kevin Novak placed third with a leap of 5-10.
Stephen Burgett crossed the line second in the 200 meters with a clocking of 23.55 for the Dreadnaughts.
Ben Steavenson finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.65, while teammate Victor Krug was eighth in 2:15.87 for Dexter.
In the 1,600-meter run, Dreadnaught Bobby Aprill placed first in 4:36.68. Steavenson was third in 4:40.35, while Alex Hess was fourth in 4:42.79.
Jason Bishop broke the tape first in the 3,200-meter run with a clocking of 9:30.68. Ryan Neely was second in 9:42.60, while Andrew Martin was sixth in 10:28.67 for Dexter.
In the 800-meter relay, the Dreadnaught foursome of Ross Seagram, Tate Sanders, Stephen Burgett and Cares placed fourth in 1:35.19.
Dexter's Martin, Aprill, Hess and Neely finished first in the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 8:22.17.
On April 24, the host Dreadnaughts lost to county rival Chelsea 71-66 in a dual meet.
In field events, Novak placed first in the high jump with a mark of 6-2. Teammate Ryan Kantola was third with a 5-10.
Gunderson was first in the pole vault clearing 12-0. Nick Butler was second also with a 12-0, while Cares was third with an 11-6 for a Dexter sweep.
In the shot put, Michael Schultz finished second for the Dreads with a throw of 43-4.
Adam Umstead ended up third in the long jump with a distance of 19-3 for Dexter.
Seagram placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 11.5.
Stephen Burgett was second in the 200 meters in 23.27, while Seagram was third in 23.89.
In the 400-meter run, Umstead crossed the line second in 51.81, while Stephen Burgett was third in 52.01.
Dan Jackson finished first in the 800-meter run with a clocking of 2:00.45, while Neely was second in 2:00.86 for the Dreadnaughts.
In the 1,600-meter run, Jackson placed first in 4:20.18. Neely was second in 4:25.45, while Bishop was third in 4:32.60 for a Dexter 1-2-3 sweep.
The Dreadnaughts also swept the 3,200-meter run with Bishop placing first in 9:41.94. Aprill was second in 9:50.65, while Steavenson was third in 9:54.32.
In the 3,200-meter relay, Dexter was first in 8:42.88.
Last Friday, Jackson competed in the elite Darby Distance Twilight Meet in Hilliard, Ohio. The meet, for distance runners only, is set under the lights, with the top performers in the Midwest competing.
In an outstanding effort, Jackson, who'll run next season at Notre Dame, finished first in the 3,200-meter run with an eye-popping time of 8:59.9. The clocking is one of the best in the nation this year in the event.
Last season, Jackson placed second in the state in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:09.9.
Dexter next competes in the Golden Triangle meet Saturday at 10 a.m.
On Wednesday, the Dreadnaughts will travel to Saline to participate in the Southeastern Conference Jamboree at 1 p.m.
