With six and a half minutes remaining in the first half, Celia Kuzon scored giving the Dreadnaughts (5-1-1, 3-1-1 Southeastern Conference), ranked No. 3 in the state in Division 2, a 1-0 lead.
Three minutes later, Katie Marsh scored off an assist from Shantal Daratony upping Dexter's advantage to 2-0.
Early in the second half, the Rocks scored on a penalty kick cutting the Dreadnaught lead to 2-1.
Katie Marsh answered for Dexter converting a pass from Amanda Marsh for the game's ending outcome. The goal was Katie Marsh's 10th of the season.
"I was truly impressed with our effort and quality of play today," said Dexter coach Scott Forrester. "Coming off a hard league loss yesterday (1-0 to Ann Arbor Huron), the players showed us what they are capable of. For being a bit banged up, they played with great heart."
Keeper Zaryn Jennings recorded the win in net for the Dreadnaughts.
Last Thursday, visiting Dexter lost its first game of the season 1-0 to Ann Arbor Huron.
"It was a very competitive game which saw some quality soccer," Forrester said. "In the first half, we played too many balls in the air which is Huron's strength. We found better success with our ball possession game, but couldn't deliver that shot for a goal.
"I am very proud of how much heart our players showed through the end of the game."
After a 0-0 first half, the River Rats scored the game-winner midway through the second half off a free kick.
On April 22, visiting Dexter defeated Ypsilanti Lincoln 4-0.
Four and a half minutes into the game, Emma Monaghan scored for the Dreadnaughts. Assisting on the goal for Dexter was Colleen Cottrell.
In the second half, Katie Marsh scored off a penalty kick five minutes into the stanza for a 2-0 Dread advantage.
Three minutes later, Kristi Hughes scored off a missed Railsplitter clearing attempt giving Dexter a 3-0 lead.
With 16 minutes left on the clock, Hughes scored her second goal of the day for the contest's ending tally. Cottrell picked up her second assist of the game on the play.
"Katie (Marsh) found herself challenged by a very physical Lincoln defender," Forrester said. "Her response was to match that physical play with that of her own. Kristi's goals were both quality strikes. She is becoming more and more a threat to opponents. Zaryn Jennings and Rachelle Alcini provided the play between the pipes to gain the team's fourth shutout in a row."
Dexter next travels to Ann Arbor Pioneer for a game Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, the Dreadnaughts host Temperance Bedford for a contest at 5:30 p.m.
On May 8, Dexter visits county rival Chelsea for a game at 5:30 p.m.
