Dexter travels to Mason invite

Dexter track and field participated in the Mason Invitational last Friday.

In the boys' meet, the Dreadnaughts, the defending Division 2 state champions, finished third overall with 94 points. Holt was first with 111 points.

In field events, Dexter's Steve Ferguson placed first in the pole vault clearing 12-feet, 6-inches. Nick Butler and Jeremy Horner tied for second with a mark of 12-0.

Ryan Kantola finished first in the long jump with a leap of 20-5 ?. He also was second in the high jump with a height of 6-3.

Michael Schultz ended up third in the discus with a toss of 122-6 for the Dreadnaughts.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Butler crossed the line fifth with a time of 16.85.

Bobby Aprill, a University of Michigan recruit, broke the tape first in the 1,600-meter run with a clocking of 4:22.74. Alex Hess was third in 4:42.33 for Dexter.

Aprill also finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.71. Hess was third in 2:03.64.

Adam Cares placed seventh in the 200 meters in 25.57.

Ben Carruthers crossed the line seventh in the 3,200-meter run in 10:38.20 for the Dreadnaughts.

In the 400-meter relay, the Dexter foursome of Nick Crow, Mike Swantek, Ryan Kantola and Cares placed fifth in 46.20.

In the 1,600-meter relay, the Dreadnaught group of Sam Laidlaw, Alex Kantola, Dillon Kipke and Ethan Rickelmann finished seventh in 3:53.49.

In the girls' meet, Dexter placed fifth with 65 points. Okemos was first with 129 points.

In field events, Dreadnaught Becca Pilkerton, a University of Minnesota recruit, was first in the pole vault clearing 12-3. Janelle Heldt was second with an 8-6, while Maria Brundage was fourth with an 8-0.

Pilkerton was seventh in the long jump with a measurement of 14-9. She also was third in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.16.

Sherri Gamble finished second in the high jump with a height of 4-8. She also was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.84.

Abby Hess placed eighth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:12.54.

Kristen Yarows crossed the line second in the 3,200-meter run with a clocking of 12:20.34, while Ellen Riehle was fifth in 12:59.44 for Dexter.

In the 400-meter relay, the Dreadnaught quartet of Rachel Marks, Stephanie Lim, Stephanie Ward and Gamble finished seventh in 35.85.

In the 800-meter relay, Dexter's Maggie Grundler, Elizabeth Love, Lim and Brundage placed seventh in 2:06.10.

On April 22, the Dreadnaughts traveled to Adrian for a dual meet.

In the boys' event, Michael Schultz was first in the shot put with a heave of 42-3, while he was second in the discus with a 119-3.

Ryan Kantola was a double-winner placing first in the high jump with a height of 5-11 and first in the long jump with a mark of 20-5 ?.

Dexter finished 1-2-3 in the pole vault, as Ferguson was first with a 13-0. Horner and Butler also cleared 13-0 but placed second and third, respectively.

Butler ended up second in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.35, while Dillon Kipke was third in 17.83.

Ross Seagram placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 11.23.

Swantek finished third in the 400-meter run in 54.36.

Aprill broke the tape first in the 800-meter run with a clocking of 1:57.92. He also was first in the 1,600-meter run in 4:41.36.

Also in the 1,600-meter run, Ben Steavenson was second in 4:42.37, while Ian Nystrom was third in 4:56.60.

In the 3,200-meter run, Steavenson finished first in 10:39.0, while Ken Metz was second in 11:10.0 and Collin McNally third in 11:20.0 for the Dreadnaughts.

In the girls' meet, Dexter finished 1-2-3 in the pole vault as Pilkerton was first clearing 11-0. Carly Dalton was second with a mark of 9-0, while Brundage was third with an 8-6.

Emily Hattie placed first in the discus for the Dreads with a toss of 64-8.

Gamble was first in the high jump with a height of 4-10.

In the long jump, Dexter swept the top two spots as Ward was first with a measurement of 14-0, while Pilkerton was second with a 13-9.

Gamble placed first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.47, while Brundage was second in 20.40.

Pilkerton was first in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.31, while Brundage was third in 1:00.63.

Ward was second in the 100 meters in 13.52, while she was second in the 200 meters in 28.31.

Mari Couasnon crossed the line first in the 400-meter run in 1:01, while Grundler was third in 1:12.

Riehle placed first in the 800-meter run in 2:32, while Kristen Yarows was second in 2:34.

Caci Dishman was first in the 1,600-meter run in 5:50, while Hess was second in 6:03 and Carmen Cicchella was third in 6:30.

In the 3,200-meter run, Jamila Odeh was first in 13:36, while Yarows was second in 13:37 and Cicchella third in 14:42.

In the 400-meter relay, Gamble, Marks, Lim and Ward placed first in 55.33.

Julie Cohen, Cara Kovall, Candice Weisner and Grundler finished first in the 800-meter relay in 2:05.03.

In the 1,600-meter relay, Pilkerton, Dishman, Riehle and Couasnon broke the tape first in 4:24.

In the 3,200-meter relay, Yarows, Hess, Dishman and Riehle finished first with a time of 10:49.20.

Dexter next travels to Saline to participate in the Golden Triangle meet Friday at 5 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Dreadnaughts host Ypsilanti Lincoln at 4:30 p.m.
