Dreadnaughts blank Clinton

Dexter baseball finished 1-2 at the Clinton Invitational last Saturday.

In their opener, the Dreadnaughts (3-6) lost to Jackson County Parma Western 10-4.
Pacing Dexter was senior Joe Berklich with a two-run triple.
In the second game, the Dreadnaughts defeated the host Redskins 12-0 in a contest shortened by the mercy rule.
Senior Alex Krull was impressive from the mound for Dexter tossing a three-hitter and striking out six for the victory.
"He had good location," said Dexter coach Greg Berklich. "I was really pleased with his performance."
At the plate, senior Chris Marsh had a home run and a double to lead the Dreadnaughts. Sophomore Henry Haley added three hits, while Berklich had two hits, including a double.
In its third game, Dexter lost to Three Rivers 6-5.
Junior Stephen Zalucha had two hits, including a triple, while Marsh also contributed to hits for the Dreadnaughts.
"Andy Whitaker came in relief and did a pretty nice job for us," Berklich said.
Last Thursday, Dexter lost to visiting Adrian in a doubleheader 15-13, 9-3.
In the opener, junior Mike Clutterbuck, Marsh and Berklich each finished with four hits to lead the Dreadnaughts.
In the nightcap, leading Dexter was Clutterbuck who connected for a home run.
The Dreadnaughts next hosts Ann Arbor Huron Thursday at 4 p.m.
On Saturday, Dexter visits Manchester for a doubleheader at 10 a.m.
On Monday, the Dreadnaughts travel to Saline for a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
On May 1, Dexter hosts Chelsea for a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
Freshman Baseball
Dexter's freshman baseball team lost to visiting county rival Chelsea 9-6 April 15 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Kevin Skiver pitched well for the Dreadnaughts tossing six innings, allowing five hits, striking out 10 and giving up five earned runs.
At the plate, Noah Hiser finished 3-for-4, while Tyler Dunham was 2-for-4.
In Game 2, Dexter defeated the Bulldogs 16-1 in a game shortened by the mercy rule.
Nate Jones picked up the win from the mound for the Dreadnaughts.
Kevin Paulun ended up 3-for-3, while Justin Hart was 1-for-1, Ian Boyd 2-for-2 and Hiser 2-for-2 for Dexter offensively.
On April 8, the Dreadnaughts opened the season splitting a doubleheader with visiting Carleton Airport losing the first game 13-6 and winning the nightcap 9-4.
In Game 1, Boyd led the offensive attack with two hits, while Andrew Gagne, Hart, Hiser, Jones and Paulun each had one hit.
Pitching in the contest for Dexter were Ryan Souder, Alex Wallis, Boyd and Hart.
In the second game, Jones picked up the win from the rubber, going the distance yielding five hits and fanning six.
Hiser ended up 3-for-3 with three RBIs for the Dreads, while Wallis was 1-for-2 with three RBIs.
Last Saturday, visiting Dexter defeated Ann Arbor Pioneer 11-3. Kevin Skiver and Boyd combined for a five-hitter and five strikeouts.
Wallis, Hiser, Hart, Jones and Souder combined for 12-of-24. Justin Hart added four RBIs.
In its next game, the Dreadnaughts lost to Ann Arbor Huron 6-4. Jones and Skiver combined for the loss from the hill.
Hiser ended up 2-for-4 from the plate, while Souder was 2-for-2.
Dexter next travels to Chelsea to participate in a Southeastern Conference quad tournament Saturday at 4 p.m.
On Monday, the Dreadnaughts host Ypsilanti Lincoln at 4 p.m.
On April 24, Dexter visits Ann Arbor Huron for a contest at 4 p.m.
