Dexter clamps down defensively

Dexter's girls' soccer team defeated host Ann Arbor Greenhills 5-0 last Saturday.

Katie Marsh opened the scoring 15 minutes into the first half, converting a pass from Amanda Marsh for a 1-0 Dreadnaught lead.
Five minutes later, Celia Kuzon scored increasing Dexter's advantage to 2-0. Megan Dinser picked up an assist on the play for the Dreadnaughts (3-0-1).
Nine minutes into the second half, Amanda Marsh scored on a leaping header for a 3-0 lead. Assisting on the goal for Dexter was Katie Marsh.
Midway through the second half, Erica LeBlanc scored upping the Dreadnaughts' lead to 4-0.
With six and a half minutes left on the clock, Taylor Conter scored for the game's final margin.
Combining for the shutout in net for Dexter were keepers Zaryn Jennings and Rachelle Alcini.
"We saw some great finishing today," said Dexter coach Scott Forrester. "Amanda's header and Katie's back to pressure goal were of ESPN highlight quality. Conter's strike had great authority and our overall play against a team that is ranked No. 2 in Division 4 was top notch."
Last Thursday, host Dexter defeated Adrian 8-0.
Six minutes into the game, the Dreadnaughts struck as Dinser scored for a 1-0 Dexter lead.
Six minutes later, Amanda Marsh scored blasting in a shot from 28 yards away for a 2-0 advantage.
With 25 minutes left in the first half, Katie Marsh scored off an assist from Dinser for a 3-0 margin.
LeBlanc scored the final two goals of the first half, giving Dexter a commanding 5-0 advantage heading into the break. Assisting on the last goal was Katie Marsh.
One minute into the second half, Katie Marsh scored her second goal of the game for a 6-0 lead. Kuzon assisted on the play for the Dreadnaughts.
Ten minutes later, Brittany Walls scored off an assist from Amanda Marsh.
Emma Monaghan scored the final goal of the contest for Dexter. With the goal, the mercy rule was enacted ending the game with 20 minutes still left on the clock.
Jennings and Alcini combined for the shutout in net for the Dreads.
"We are starting to develop that killer mentality that is needed," Forrester said. "We didn't rush too many chances. Our midfielders did a great job of controlling the game and setting our attack up."
On April 15, host Dexter defeated Tecumseh 7-0.
"We played an extremely average first half," Forrester said. "We created some early opportunities but didn't show a lot of passion in our game. The second half was another story. We saw glimpses of things to come. We had some good possessions and combinations to attack their defense with different looks."
To begin the scoring, Katie Marsh beat the Indian keeper for a 1-0 lead 22 minutes into the first half.
Five minutes into the second half, Katie Marsh scored her second goal of the contest off an assist from Shantal Daratony.
Two minutes later, Daratony scored off an assist from Katie Marsh for a 3-0 Dexter advantage.
Midway through the second half, Katie Marsh scored her third goal of the game for a 4-0 Dreadnaught lead. Monaghan recorded an assist on the play for Dexter.
With 20 minutes left on the clock, Amanda Marsh scored off an assist from Kuzon for a 5-0 lead.
Three minutes later, Kuzon scored for a 6-0 advantage.
With 10 minutes remaining in the game, LeBlanc scored for the contest's final tally. Picking up an assist on the goal for the Dreadnaughts was Haley Brewster.
Earning the shutout in net for Dexter was Jennings.
The Dreadnaughts next visit Ann Arbor Huron for a game Thursday at 7 p.m.
On Friday, Dexter hosts Salem at 5:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, the Dreadnaughts host Saline at 5:30 p.m.
On May 1, Dexter travels to Ann Arbor Pioneer for a game at 5:30 p.m.
