The beginning of pennies for patients

By Catherine A. Rodriguezand Jaime E. Uren

PUBLISHED: April 24, 2008

Creekside Intermediate joins 1,200 other schools nationwide that fundraise to support The Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Myeloma Society. All money raised goes toward research fund for children with Luekemia and Lymphoma.

Loose change and dollars that are donated by students in each classroom are put in a bucket and counted daily by student council. At the end of a three week period, the classroom that collected the most money earns a pizza party.

Each school sponsors two children with blood cancer. Creekside's students are supporting a seven year old boy named Noah and an eight year old girl named Sarah.

Though this is Creekside's first year participating, the school has already exceeded their goal of $800, raising $4,275.88.

Creekside is planning to do this fundraiser again because it is an incomparable impact to the students and teachers when they have the feeling of supporting a desirable cause.

Catherine A. Rodriguez and Jaime E. Uren are sixth-graders at Creekside.
