Champion competes in state meet final

Champion Gymnastics' optional team is soaring high this competitive season.

The Champion Level 7 squad competed in a meet at Rochester last month. Many of the gymnasts recorded their personal best scores.
Claire Tewksbury, 13, scored high marks on vault with a 9.575 for first place, beam 9.225 for first place, bars 9.125 for second place, floor 9.1 for first place, and an all around of 37.025 for first place.
Stephanie Lim, 14, had high marks of 9.6 on vault for first place, 9.225 on beam for first place, 9.05 on floor for second place, bars 9.125, and a score of 37.0 all around for a second-place finish. Gabbie Ralph, 11, scored high on vault with a 9.425 for third place, 9.0 on floor, beam an 8.975, bars an 8.75 and an all around score of 36.175 for fourth place.
Emily Slater, 11, scored a 9.275 on vault, 9.225 on beam for second place, bars an 8.7, floor an 8.7 and an all around tally of 35.9. Maddie Kurcz, 10, scored high on vault with a 9.275, beam a 9.175 for fourth place, floor an 8.65, bars an 8.5, and an all around score of 35.6. Taylor Livingston, 11, scored a 9.450 on vault for sixth place, 9.0 on floor, an 8.4 on beam and an 8.35 on bars.
Morgan Taylor, 12, scored high on vault with an 8.925, beam an 8.625 and floor an 8.2.
The Level 7 team traveled to Lansing to compete in its state meet.
Tewksbury scored high on beam with a 9.4 for 10th place, 9.2 on floor, 9.150 on bars for eighth place, 9.125 on vault for eighth place and a 36.875 all around score for eighth place.
Ralph placed sixth on vault with a 9.375, ninth on floor with a 9.225, beam a 9.2, bars a 9.050 and 10th place all around with a score of 36.850. Kurcz took high marks on beam with a 9.250, vault a 9.150, floor a 9.125, and bars an 8.775, with an all around score of 36.300.
Emily Slater took second place on beam with a 9.450, floor an 8.950, vault an 8.925, bars an 8.850 and an all around tally of 36.175. Lim took fifth on floor with a 9.4, vault a 9.0, bars an 8.9, beam an 8.775 and an all around score of 36.075. Livingston scored high on floor with a 9.0, vault an 8.975, beam an 8.925, bars an 8.625 and an all around score of 35.525.
This was the last meet of the season for the Level 7 team.
Champion's Level 9 gymnasts also competed in the Rochester meet.
Alyssa Young, 14, placed high on beam with an 8.825 for sixth place, floor an 8.55, vault an 8.15, bars an 8.15 and an all around score of 33.675. Rachel Marks, 15, scored high on vault with a 9.0, floor an 8.7, beam an 8.525 and an all around tally of 33.725.
The Level 9 gymnasts participated in the state meet in Westland April 1.
Alyssa Young scored high on floor with an 8.625, beam an 8.375, vault an 8.325, for an all around score of 32.875. Chelsea Larsen, 18, competed her last state meet for Champion Gymnastics scoring high on floor with an 8.8, bars an 8.4 for sixth place, vault an 8.325, beam a 7.9 for her final all around score of 33.425.
Marks had her personal best meet this season scoring high on bars 9.3 for fourth place, floor a 9.0 for seventh place, beam eighth place scoring an 8.975, vault an 8.925 for seventh place and an all around score of 36.2. Marks will compete in the Region 5 meet on Friday in Midland. She will compete against gymnasts from Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan.
