Residents reported the suspicious situation involving the driver offering money to area children earlier this month.
"There was an incident that happened (on April 4) in Dexter Village with regards to a person who did talk to a couple of kids walking on the street and from an open car door said, 'Hey, did you want some money?" said Sheriffs Communication Officer Cmdr. Dave Egeler.
According to Egeler, sheriff's deputies are not sure of the suspect's intentions.
The children fled from the vehicle and called the authorities to report it.
"They didn't go to him or the car," Egeler said. "They ran away, reported it to us, and we're following up on it."
According to residents who called The Dexter Leader, the incident happened on Central Street and Huron Street within the subdivision there near the Dexter Cider Mill.
Another alleged occurrence happened near Mill Creek Middle School.
One of the residents who contacted the newspaper said that he and other residents are looking at this incident as an attempted abduction.
"The police are seeing it as a suspicious incident - I have children," he said. "I'm fortunate. I have a 14-year-old son, but I told him you're not out of the woods yet."
According to the source, the vehicle is gold with tinted windows, although no one has reported recognizing the year, make or model.
"It's a double edged sword ... you alert the media and you're inciting panic, but if you don't you're risking not having a lot of eyes alert to this," the source said. "On a positive, I have seen a lot more police coverage in and around the specific area where it happened and throughout the village. It has obviously stepped up."
