"We want to replicate what the men's team did last fall," said Dexter coach Scott Forrester, who also doubles as the Dreadnaughts' boys' soccer coach. "And that was winning a state championship."
The Dexter boys' squad defeated East Lansing 1-0 in a shootout (4-3) to capture the Division II state title last fall.
The Dreadnaught girls have the experience, talent and firepower to copy the boys and raise the state championship trophy this spring.
Last year, Dexter finished 21-2 overall. Most of the Dreadnaught line-up returns for another run at the title this season.
Returning to lead Dexter in 2007 is Caitlin Henderson. The junior forward led the Dreadnaughts with 28 goals and 12 assists last year.
Also sparking Dexter this season will be juniors center-midfielder Amanda Marsh and backs Krystyna Taheri and Remme Cortright.
In net for the Dreadnaughts will be standout keeper Liz Umstead. The senior captain posted 18 shutouts last year.
Top newcomers to the squad this season will be sophomore back Chelsea Low and freshman back Caitlin Rize.
Forrester said the strength of this year's team will be its mental toughness, while an area of concern would be depth.
