"It was a good opening win," said Dexter coach Greg Berklich. "We played pretty well. It was good test. It was actually our first time playing outside. We still need a lot of work. The competition will get a lot stiffer."
Picking up the win in Game 1 was pitcher Joe Berklich. The senior tossed a two-hitter striking out two.
"He pitched a good game," Berklich said. "He threw a lot of ground balls."
Offensively, junior Mike Clutterbuck led the way for the Dreadnaughts (2-0) with a home run and two doubles. Junior Stephen Zalucha added two doubles, while sophomore Henry Haley had two hits for Dexter.
In the nightcap, Zalucha recorded the victory from the mound, throwing the final three innings for the win. Sophomore Alex McMurray started for the Dreadnaughts going four innings and striking out three.
"He had good location and pitched well," Berklich said of McMurray.
Offensively, senior Andrew McGriff, junior Andy Whitaker, Berklich and Clutterbuck sparked Dexter each connecting for a double.
The Dreadnaughts' next host Ida in their home opener Friday at 4 p.m.
On Monday, Dexter squares off against Lansing Catholic Central for a game at 4 p.m. at Eastern Michigan University.
On April 17, the Dreadnaughts host Southeastern Conference White Division rival Adrian at 4 p.m.
