Kevin K. Clark, 43, of Manchester, formerly of Chelsea, died April 2, 2005, at his home. He was born Sept. 25, 1961 in Ann Arbor, the son of Carroll "Junior" and Linda (Howard) Clark.
Mr. Clark graduated from Chelsea High School in 1979. He enjoyed watching movies, reading the Bible, shooting and driving with his good buddy, Keith.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Chelsea and had worked for Chelsea Milling Co. as a truck driver since 1987.
On May 17, 1986, he married Lisa H. Stephens in Chelsea and she survives.
Also surviving are his parents of Stockbridge; one sister, Judy (Steve) Shepherd of Grass Lake; father- and mother-in-law, Peter and Laine Stephens of Hayes, Va.; one sister-in-law, Laura (Kevin) Brady of Texas; one niece, Lisa (Wally) Steinaway; and one nephew, Steven Shepherd.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. today at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea. The Rev. Karen Schulte will officiate. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery in Stockbridge.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea Masonic Hall Chapter 156.
LOIS JEANETTE (OLNEY)
MAITLAND
Chelsea
Lois Jeanette (Olney) Maitland, 89, of Chelsea died March 14, 2005.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Maitland.
Survivors include three children, John (Roseane), Jim (Joyce) and Kathy (Barry McGhan); and her sisters, Ruth (Harold) Greenlee, Edith (Paul) Voss and Eunice Moll.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chelsea Retirement Community Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea Retirement Community.

MERNA ANN BRISTOW
Dexter
Merna Ann Bristow, 62, of Dexter died April 1, 2005. She was born July 16, 1942, in Jackson to Rachel (nee Good) and Walter Cassidy.
Mrs. Bristow was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dexter for 36 years, 12 of which were spent as church secretary. She also was an avid reader and card player who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Bristow is survived by her husband, Dennis Bristow; son, Steve (Suzanne) Bristow; two grandchildren, Rachel and Eric; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Dick) Hatch and Jan Warner; mother, Rachel; and nieces, nephews and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father, Walter; and sister, Mary Beth.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dexter. Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery.
The family received visitors Monday at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel and at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with a scripture service that evening. Visitors were also received Tuesday morning at the church until the time of service.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
LaVERNE F. SMITH
Chelsea
LaVerne F. "Smitty" Smith, 80, of Chelsea died April 4, 2005, at Chelsea Community Hospital. He was born Feb. 20, 1925, in West Branch, the son of Clyde J. and Phoesie A. (Wangler) Smith.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, and was at the first atomic blast at Bikini Atoll.
In 1989, he retired from Chrysler Proving Grounds in Chelsea. He had been a volunteer at Chelsea Community Hospital since 1996, and worked there the day he died.
On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Fay E. Osgood, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons, Steven F. (Marcine) Smith of Mount Pleasant and Brian D. (Diane) Smith of Belgrade, Maine; three grandchildren, Jessica Novak, Nicholas Smith and Michelle Smith; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Adrianna and Lauren Novak; one brother, Bob Smith of Flint; one sister, Theresa Randall of Shelby Township; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Don.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Chelsea Community Hospital Auxiliary.
Arrangements were by Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.
ALVA GOSWICK RAIFORD
Winston-Salem, N.C.
Alva Goswick Raiford, 103, died peacefully April 4, 2005, at the home of her granddaughter, Lynda Boham of Columbia, S.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Raiford Sr.; a brother, Harry Goswick of Winston-Salem; and a sister, Evelyn Millican of Greensboro, N.C.
She is survived by her son, Ralph Raiford Jr. of Columbia; and her daughter, Susan Ryan Welsh of Oceola, Ind.
She is also survived by grandchildren, Candy Proctor of Manchester; Judy Dombrowski of Frisco, Colo., Robert Raiford of Dexter, Ronald Raiford of Dexter, Randy Raiford of Dexter, Cindy Van Parys and Steve Welsh of South Bend, Ind., and Peggy Statzer of Oceola, Ind.; and several great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
Mrs. Raiford was a graduate of Salem College in Winston-Salem, and shared her love of children through a career in teaching. After teaching in North Carolina, she taught for many years at Patrick Hamilton Elementary School in Dowagiac.
A memorial service for Mrs. Raiford will be held at a later date at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem.
