Dexter takes on Huron last week

Dexter track and field opened its season last Thursday hosting Ann Arbor Huron in a non-scoring meet.

"I was impressed with our performance," said Dexter coach Chris Hanlon. "There are a lot of people at or better than last year's top times. We have a lot of experience. We worked hard in the off-season."
In the boys' meet, Dreadnaught Michael Schultz finished first in the discus with a toss of 116-feet, 3 inches and first in the shot put with a heave of 44-2 1/4.
In the high jump, Ryan Kantola was first with a personal best 6-3, while teammate Kevin Novak was third tying a personal best 5-10.
Dexter swept the first three places in the pole vault as Larry Gunderson finished first clearing 12-0, while Nick Butler was second 12-0 and Adam Cares was third with an 11-7.
Kantola bested the field in the long jump with a mark of 20-7 3/4, while Adam Umstead was second with a 20-0.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Butler placed second in 17.81, while Nate Cook was third in 17.93.
Ross Seagram broke the tape first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.68, while Cares was third in 12.30.
Steve Burgett was first in the 400-meter run in 53.81, while Ryan Neely was third in 55.75.
Dan Jackson finished first in the 3,200-meter run in 4:27, while Neely was second in 4:28.02 and Jason Bishop third in 4:38.23.
In the 600-200-meter relay, Andrew Martin and Neely teamed up to place first in 1:56.65.
In the 800-meter relay, the foursome of Tate Sanders, Burgett, Kantola and Seagram finished first in 1:36.15.
In the girls' meet, Laura Van Voorhis was first in the discus with a mark of 104-9, while Rachel Moir was second with a 72-11.
In the shot put, Van Voorhis was first with a 30-5, while Leah Gibson was third with a 26-7 1/4.
Sherri Gamble placed first in the high jump for Dexter with a height of 4-8. Kendall Chappell was second with a 4-6, while Karly Sherwood was third with a 4-0.
The Dreadnaughts swept the top three spots in the pole vault as Becca Pilkerton placed first clearing 11-0. Carly Dalton was second with a mark of 8-0, while Alex Dutcher was third with a 7-0 height.
In the long jump, Chantel Jennings was first for Dexter with a leap of 15- 0, while Stephanie Ward was second with a 13-9 and Jackie McNally third with a 13-8 1/4.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Sherri Christian finished first with a clocking of 17.59, while Jennings was second in 18.25.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Christian was first in 50.49, while Pilkerton was second in 52.63.
Ward placed second in the 100 meters in 13.82.
Christine Murray crossed the line first in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:05.79, while Laura Merz was second in 1:07.96 and Kristi Olton third in 1:09.40.
In the 1600-meter run Melany Mioduszewski was first in 5:34.06, while Ellen Riehle was second in 5:47.67 and Kristin Yarows third in 5:48.22.
In the 600-200-meter relay, Mari Couasnon and Riehle combined to place first in 2:17.32.
In the 800-meter relay, Ward, Murray, Christian and Couasnon placed first in 1:55.01.
In the 3,200-meter co-ed relay, Jessie Vicker, Neely, Yarows and Jackson finished first in 9:10.19.
In the 1,600-meter co-ed relay, Peter Burgett, Steve Burgett, Christian and Pilkerton placed first in 4:10.10.
Dexter next travels to Tecumseh for a meet April 17 at 4:30 p.m.
