Dexter's track and field team announced its Notable 'Naughts for the opening week of the season.
Named Notable 'Naughts last week were George Berger, Mike Wetterau, Nick Butler, Ellen Riehle, Mari Couasnon, Michael Schultz, Nick Crow and Courtney Young.
Berger was selected a Notable ''Naught because of his hard work.
"George is a senior who has worked very diligently without a great deal of fanfare and has provided leadership and work ethic for the boys' distance runners," said Dexter coach Chris Hanlon.
Wetterau earned the honor for his dedication to the program.
"Mike is beginning his fourth and final campaign as a Dexter thinclad and has consistently been a model of effort and character for his teammates," Hanlon said.
Butler was recognized for his all around commitment.
"Nick did not miss an off-season workout as he prepared to take his lofty pole vaulting to an even higher level," Hanlon said. "He has also been a workout leader in the first two weeks of the new season, setting the pace for the long sprinters group."
Riehle was selected because of her leadership.
"Ellen provided great leadership during the off-season and was a positive recruiter for the track and field team, specifically the girls' distance squad" Hanlon said. "She has helped that squad tremendously in the opening weeks of the season."
Couasnon earned the award for training regimen.
"Mari is coming off a monster off-season, with consistent, vigorous workouts through the cold winter month," Hanlon said. "She is also making great efforts in the weight training class. She exudes a sense of purpose and experience in what she is doing."
Schultz was recognized for his work with the throwers.
"Michael has acted as a leader for the throwers and been instrumental in helping a new coach gain his bearings," Hanlon said. "He has high goals set for himself and his fellow throwers."
Though in his first season with the program, Crow has already distinguished himself.
"Nick joined off-season workouts as a senior newcomer to track and field and immediately made a place for himself with his effort and attitude," Hanlon said. "Nick has also led the sprint corps through some challenging early season workouts."
Young has gained notice through her early season efforts.
"The only non-senior to be recognized in the first round of Notable 'Naughts, Courtney participated in many off-season workouts and has been very determined in her work on the hurdles in the first few weeks of the season."
Depending on the weather, Dexter travels to Saline for a meet Wednesday at 4 p.m.
