The Vipers won all five of their contests, including a convincing 31-16 victory over the Livonia Blue Angels in the championship game Sunday afternoon at Pinckney High School. Dexter led 13-12 at halftime before going on a 17-1 run. Livonia's only field goal of the second half came with 35 seconds remaining.
En route to the finals, Dexter defeated the Pinckney Pirates, 29-18; the Pinckney Pulse, 39-7; the St. Paul (Grosse Pointe) Lakers, 31-22; and the Oxford Wildcats, 40-22.
Team members include Alex Galiyas, Jonathon Haley, Andrew Kapanowski, Ethan Kremkus, Cameron LaFontaine, Cole Rize, Derek Seidl and Blake Trinske.
The Vipers finished the season at 23-1, with their only loss coming to the Courthouse of Kalamazoo AAU team during a March 17 tournament in Ypsilanti. Their other accomplishments include a 6-0 mark in the fall league at Jackson's Rando Activity Center and a 9-0 record in the Ann Arbor circuit.
Rize and Seidl also competed on the Vipers' sixth-grade team, which enjoyed an impressive campaign as well. The locals went 20-7, with the highlights being an undefeated fall season at the RAC and a first-place finish at the Chelsea Tournament.
Rounding out the Vipers' sixth-grade roster were Brandon Bellottie, Nick King, Andy McWilliams, Daniel Savakus, Tony Shiguango and Matt Yates.
