Dexter athletes earn All-SEC

Chelsea and Dexter were well-represented on this year's All-Southeastern Conference White Division squads.

In boys' basketball, both schools had two players selected to the All-SEC White Division first team.

For the Bulldogs, senior guard Nate Schwarze (5-foot-11) and senior forward Micah Hudson (6-2) earned first-team accolades.

The Dreadnaughts were represented on the first team by senior guard Johnny Benjamin (6-4) and senior forward James Nati (6-4).

Rounding out the SEC White Division first team were Tecumseh junior Cam Worker and Ypsilanti Lincoln sophomore guard Ryan Walton (6-2).

Named All-SEC White Division honorable mention for Chelsea were senior guard Adam Connell (5-11) and senior forward Mike Sauers (6-2). For Dexter, senior forward Rob Kuzon (6-3) and junior guard T.J. Fenske (6-1) were selected All-SEC White Division honorable mention.

Junior Paul Walmsley and sophomore Zach Galloway from Tecumseh and Lincoln senior Aaron Hawkins were also named All-SEC White Division honorable mention.

Earning the SEC White Sportsmanship Award for the Bulldogs was Sauers. Fenske received the award for the Dreads.

Chelsea finished first in the SEC White with a 13-1 record. Dexter was second at 12-2, followed by Lincoln at 4-10 and Tecumseh with a 3-11 mark.

In the SEC Red Division, Ann Arbor Pioneer placed first with an 11-3 record. Adrian was second with a 5-9 mark, while Temperance Bedford was 4-10 and Saline 3-11.

Named All-SEC Red Division first team were senior guard J.T. Knight (6-1) and senior center Matt Pettit (6-6) from Pioneer, senior center Brad Ohrman (6-4) and junior guard Brent Ohrman of Adrian, junior forward Kyle Larsen (6-3) from Saline and Bedford senior Mitch Boss.

In hockey, Chelsea had two players selected to the SEC White Division first team in senior forward Schyler Williams and senior defenseman Travis Amburgey.

Dexter had three players selected to the SEC White first team in senior forwards Nick Field and Alex Johnston and junior goalie Nick Ceccolini.

Rounding out the first unit were Lincoln's David Palmer and Andrew Ebright.

Receiving All-SEC White Division honorable mention accolades for the Bulldogs were junior forward Kyle George, senior forward David Maveal and senior defenseman Jake Vaughan.

Named All-SEC White honorable mention for the Dreadnaughts were junior defensemen Austin Shapiro and Hunter Lyons.

Lincoln's Joey Gomolak was also named SEC White honorable mention.

Chelsea senior forward Howdy Holmes received the SEC Sportsmanship Award. Senior forward Zach Stanislovaitis earned the award for Dexter.

Named to the SEC Red Division first team were Pioneer's Ezra Shaffer, Brad Neagos, Mike Powers and Kevin Graff, Saline's Jay Birko and Bedford's Dan Hopkins.

In volleyball, selected All-SEC White Division first team for the Bulldogs were senior outside hitter Ann Kendzicky (5-11), senior setter Katie MacFarlan, senior outside hitter Julie Kedroske and senior outside hitter Paige Denison (5-9).

For the Dreadnaughts, senior middle blocker Camille Hanks (6-0) and senior defensive specialist Heather Bradshaw (5-9) were named All-SEC White Division first team.

The seventh member of the All-SEC White first team was Tecumseh junior Nikki Hughes.

Named All-SEC White Division honorable mention for Chelsea were senior outside hitter Hannah Osbeck and sophomore middle blocker Carolyn Olsen (6-0).

For Dexter, senior setter Rosie Lee (5-6) and sophomore outside hitter Colleen Lasecki (5-6) were chosen All-SEC White Division honorable mention.

Tecumseh juniors Carlee Handy, Lindsey Stephenson and Theresa O'Leary, along with Lincoln senior Kayla Dillion, senior Betty Budd and sophomore Crystal Washington were also selected All-SEC White honorable mention.

The Bulldogs finished first in the SEC White with a 7-3 record. The Dreadnaughts were second with a 6-4 mark. Tecumseh was third with a 5-5 record, while Lincoln was fourth with a 0-10 record.

Kedroske received the SEC White Division Sportsmanship Award for Chelsea, while junior setter Sonya Lewis (5-8) earned the award for Dexter.

In the SEC Red Division, Saline placed first with a 7-3 record. Bedford was second with a 6-4 mark, while Adrian and Pioneer tied for third with 5-5 records.

Named All-SEC Red Division first team were Saline seniors Nicole Widdon, Kara Zawisza and Kelsi Bitter. Pioneer senior Alicia Beckett and sophomore Vivien Reece, along with Adrian senior Jolyn Timms and Bedford senior Jackie Blaida also made the first team.
