Dexter's Hiser commits to Adrian

Dexter's Nick Hiser will continue his football career at Adrian College this fall. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound senior defensive lineman was a terror in the trenches for the Dreadnaughts demanding constant double-teaming this past season.

"I enjoyed plugging holes, pass rushing and creating lanes for our linebackers in pursuit," said Hiser, who also was recruited by Albion College and Alma College. "I've enjoyed every moment of this season and feel that this year's group was the true definition of a team. We had a great group of guys and coaches."
Dexter finished 4-5 overall this season and 2-1 in the Southeastern Conference White Division. The Dreadnaughts placed second in the league, losing to county rival and SEC White Division champion Chelsea on a last-second touchdown pass, 33-29.
"We had a great season and I'll be back to watch my brothers play," said Hiser, who bench presses 260 pounds and squats 325 pounds.
Dexter coach Tom Barbieri said Hiser, a two-year varsity performer, is an athletic lineman.
"His strength is his quickness off the ball," he said. "That's one of the things they (Adrian coaches) liked about him. He'll definitely put on weight in college. He also had a lot of big hits for us on kickoffs."
During games, Hiser is intense and focused, but Barbieri said off the field he's more laid back.
"He's a fun guy," he said. "He'll tell you a joke in the middle of practice. He helped keep the guys loose."
Hiser, a right fielder and pitcher for Dexter who's entering his third year with the varsity nine was also recruited by Siena Heights University for baseball, is as accomplished in the classroom as he is on the field. With a 3.4 grade point average, Hiser is a four-time All-Academic honoree and has already earned two scholarships for his work as a student.
A testament to Hiser's hard-hitting, yet clean play on the gridiron, was receiving the SEC Sportsmanship Award this season as selected by conference coaches.
Hiser is the first Dreadnaught to commit to play college football this fall. Last year, Dexter had a program record 10 players sign to compete at the next level.
Hiser will join former Dexter teammate offensive lineman Erik Boren as a member of Adrian's football team next season. Boren recently completed his freshman year with the Bulldogs. Adrian plays Division III college football in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
"Coach Barbieri and Coach (Ken) Koening were very supportive and helped me make a great collegiate choice in Adrian," said Hiser.
