With eight published books and a slew of awards, Crum has found her calling.
She paid a visit to Wylie Elementary School on Tuesday and Wednesday to share her passion with students.
Crum did her 60-minute presentation on writing and shared with students storytelling abilities, organizing, revising working with an editor and illustrator.
"She shared how writing a children's book works," said Peggy Jensen, school librarian.
Crum also discussed where she gets her ideas for her stories, how the books are made and what makes a successful story.
Crum said that she has four books that are set to be published in the future.
Crum was a librarian for the Ann Arbor District Library for 24 years before retiring in 2004 and she said that she has always been a storyteller with passion for books.
"It's a pleasure having Shutta here," said Jensen, who added that Crum's visit was made possible by the school grant Parent and Teachers Together.
