Dreads earn All-State honors

It has been a history-making year for Dexter hockey this past season. The Dreadnaughts advanced to their first ever state regional final before losing to Dearborn Divine Child 4-2 earlier this month.

Dexter also finished the season with an overall record of 20-6-1. The 20 wins are a school record. The Dreadnaughts also captured a Southeastern Conference championship with a perfect 7-0 record.
Topping off the season, Dexter had a school record six players named to the Division III All-State squad.
Receiving first-team Division III All-State recognition for the Dreadnaughts was senior forwards and linemates Nick Field and Alex Johnston. Both also were Dexter captains this past year.
"They had a great season," said Dexter coach Gary Howell. "They both deserved to be on the first team. They really fed off of each other throughout the season."
Field finished with a team-high 38 goals and 24 assists for 62 points. He had 14 power play goals, five game-winning goals and a plus/minus of plus-56.
Johnston ended up with 28 goals and 30 assists for 58 points. He had seven power play goals, four game-winning goals and a plus/minus of plus-62.
Named second-team All-State in Division III for Dexter was junior goaltender Nick Ceccolini and junior defenseman Austin Shapiro.
Ceccolini finished the year with an 18-5-1 record, with a 2.30 goals against average and a save percentage of 94. He recorded three shutouts and had three assists this season.
Shapiro had four goals and 12 assists for 16 points this year. He had one power play goal, three game-winning goals and a plus/minus of plus-40.
Earning Division III All-State honorable mention for the Dreadnaughts was senior forward Zach Stanislovaitis and junior defenseman Hunter Lyons.
Stanislovaitis finished with 10 goals and three assists for 13 points. He had two power play goals, two game-winning goals and a plus/minus of plus-six.
Lyons had five goals and 24 assists for 29 points this season. He had four power play goals, one game-winning goal and a plus/minus of plus-40.
Rounding out Dexter's scoring this year were sophomore forward Adam Boonstra with one goal and one assist for two points, junior forward Andrew Hatch with one goal and one assist for two points, senior forward Justin Jack with four goals and 10 assists for 14 points, sophomore defenseman Zach Lucas with two goals and 11 assists for 13 points and senior defenseman Bryan Staton with two goals and two assists for four points.
Senior forward Mike Herter ended up with one goal and 10 assists for 11 points, while sophomore forward Connor Johnston had one goal and five assists for six points, sophomore defenseman Mike Clutterbuck had two goals and one assist for three points, Bryan Zhou had two assists for two points and sophomore forward Chris Carender two goals and two assists for four points.
Sophomore forward Alex Erber had six assists for six points, while senior forward Mike Machnik, who played in only nine games this season because of a broken collarbone, still had three goals and 10 assists for 13 points for the Dreadnaughts.
Freshman goaltender Tony Ceccolini finished the year with a 2-1-0 record, a 2.30 goals against average and a save percentage of 91.
