Robert Christian Herman, beloved husband, father and grandfather, of Chelsea and formerly of the Flint area, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at his residence. He was 77.
Funeral services were March 10 at Sharp Funeral Homes in Swartz Creek, Pastor Dale Grimm officiating. Interment in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery,Grand Blanc. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or Arbor Hospice.
Mr. Herman was born Aug. 2, 1929 in AuGres, the son of John and Anna (Freehling) Herman. He had resided in Chelsea for the past 1 1/2 years, coming from the Flint area. He was married to Carolina P. Bodek on July 6, 1956. He had first worked for Goodwill, and then went to work for F & E Manufacturing (Masco) of Owosso, retiring in 1991 with 33 years of service. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Surviving are: wife, Carolina; three children, Dr. James R. Herman and wife Debora of Grass Lake, Janene S. and husband David Saidoo of Swartz Creek, Jane A. and husband Michael Koch of Belmont; ten grandchildren, Jeff Herman and wife Erin, Jessica, Katie, Kristine, and Nicole Herman, Sydney and Sean Saidoo, Casie and husband Austin Garrett, Kayla and Alison Koch.
He also was awaiting the birth of his first great-grandchild, Abigail Herman. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and twelve brothers and sisters. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
Alexander Daniel Kapela died suddenly March 7, 2007 in an automobile accident. He was 19. Alex was born April 5, 1987 in Ann Arbor, the son of Daniel and Anne (Johnson) Kapela. Alex was a loving son, brother and grandson. He enjoyed trains, fishing, music, computers and writing. A 2005 Graduate of Dexter High School, Alex worked at Panera Bread and attended Washtenaw Community College. Survivors include his parents Daniel and Anne Kapela of Dexter, his sisters Whitni (Peter) Jones of Evansville, Ind., Chelsea Kapela of Dexter, his grandmother Gloria Johnson of Ann Arbor, and many, many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Healing Farewell took place March 10, 2007 at Dexter United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Bringardner officiating. Luella Dyer of Chelsea died unexpectedly Friday, March 9, 2007 in her home. She was 85.
She was born April 18, 1921 in Manchester, the daughter of William and Ida (Schneider) Steinaway.
She attended Bethlehem United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School. She was currently a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. She was a wonderful stay-at-home mom, and her cinnamon rolls will be missed.
She married James Dyer, who preceded her in death in August 1995. Survivors include her children, Tom (Linda) Dyer of Manchester, Richard (Jan) Dyer of Virginia, Kenneth (Kathy) Dyer of Arizona, Pam (Mike) Dyer-Marion of Manchester, 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Walz, Lucille Arnet, Arlene LeBeau; two brothers, Waldo Steinaway and Paul Steinaway.
Funeral services were held March 13 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Chelsea, with The Rev. Doris Case officiating. Burial followed at Bethlehem Cemetery, Ann Arbor.

Bobby R. Long of Stockbridge passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007 at his home. He was 71.
He was born on Feb. 3, 1936 in Royalton, Ky. the son of Hobert and Maxine (Marshall) Long. He had lived in the area most of his life and was a member of the Church of Christ . A veteran serving in the United States Army from May 1956 to March 1958. He retired from the Dana Corporation in Chelsea.
Mr. Long enjoyed golfing, reading and spending time at Dixie's cafe. On July 21, 1956 he married Neva M. Fauser in Angola Ind., and she preceded him in death. Surviving are 4 children, Janet Long and her partner Elizabeth Williams of Jackson, Sandra Craft of Stockbridge, Dana (Loran) Hyden of Grant Ala. , and David Long of Stockbridge. One brother Lawrence (Lila) Long of Stockbridge and one sister Deborah Carr of Stockbridge. Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by 1 son Frederick (Rob) Long, one daughter Rebecca C. Long, and one brother Pat Long. Funeral services were March 5 at the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge, with Larrel Whitaker officiating. Burial followed at Oaklawn Cemetery, Stockbridge. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Great Lakes Hospice.
Norman Edward Pagel of Chelsea died Monday, March 12, 2007 at Stockbridge Country Mannor. He was 90.
He was born Jan. 25, 1917 in Bridgeman, Mich., the son of Paul & Anna Emma (Barfelz) Pagel.
Mr. Pagel moved to Chelsea in 2004, coming from St. Joseph. He was a cook for Holly's Restaurant in St. Joe and a Michigan State highway concrete inspector, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Zion Evangelical in St. Joe. He enjoyed photography.
He married Marie Bernice Scott in Cassopolis, Mich. on April 28, 1949 and she survives. Other survivors included 3 grandchildren, Dawn(Paul) Erickson, Denise (Jon) Bentley, and Dennis Beaudette; 11 great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Lucille Radies, Dorothy Hauch, and Marion Mach. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Farrow, his grandson, Dan Beaudette and his brother, Alvin Pagel.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 15, at 2 p.m. at Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, St. Joseph, Michigan with Rev. Terry Tessari officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph, Mich. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 1-2 p.m.

Daniel Tibbals Lyons of Pinckney died Wednesday, March 7, 2007. He was 70.
He was born March 28, 1936 in Toledo, the son of James and Belva Lyons. He was the owner of Ashley Auto Service in Ann Arbor and a long-time sailor at Portage Yacht Club. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Carole Freeman Lyons. He is survived by his son, Rick (Cheryl) Lyons; his daughter, Laura Rodenbeck; his step-daughter, Atessa Khazaeli; his mother-in-law, Opal Freeman; his sister, JoAnn (Larry) Shaw; his aunt, Annabelle Ehnis; five grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service will be held at Shalom Lutheran Church (1740 East M-36, Pinckney, 48169) on Thursday, March 22 at 2 p.m. Family will receive visitors at the church on Thursday from noon until the time of service. Those who wish may direct memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
Elwin Leigh Hulce of Naples, Fla., passed away March, 9, 2007 of natural causes at the Hospice facility located in that city. He was 96.
