For the third year in a row, Dexter students are the Great Lakes Ocean Bowl Regional Champions. The group competed on Feb. 23 at the University of Michigan and placed first, scoring 583 points. The second-place team finished with 388 points. The victory earns Dexter an all-expense-paid trip to Seward, Alaska where they will compete in the National Ocean Science Bowl on April 24-27th. The team is coached by Cheryl Wells. This is the 11th year of the NOSB competition. The NOSB contains 24 regions, including Alaska and Hawaii, with each region sending their first-place team to the national competition. The goal of the NOSB is to promote Ocean literacy. Coach Wells has taken a team to nationals in Washington D.C., in 1996; Monterey, Calif. in 2006; and Stoneybrook, N.Y. in 2007. Former team member Jon Wike helped coach the team this year and Beau Kimmey supported the team at this year's competition.
