"We played very well," said Dexter coach Sarah Hynes. "We made a few too many errors in Game 5. It's hard to come back at that point, it effects your mental state. But we played well. We did a nice job."
With the loss, the Dreadnaughts' season came to a close.
Sophomore outside hitter Colleen Lasecki (5-foot-5) led Dexter with 12 kills.
Senior middle blocker Camille Hanks (6-0) added 11 kills, three blocks and three aces, while junior outside hitter Katie Ryan had 10 kills for the Dreadnaughts.
Senior defensive specialist Heather Bradshaw (5-6) finished with 19 digs, while junior outside hitter Courtney Krips (5-7) had three aces for Dexter.
Senior setter Rosie Lee (5-6) ended up with 25 assists, while junior setter Sonya Lewis (5-8) had 13 assists for the Dreads.
In the district semifinals, Dexter defeated Saline 25-17, 25-23, 21-25, 25-20. The Hornets captured the Southeastern Conference Red Division title during the regular season.
"Two weeks ago, we played Saline and they beat us very quickly in three (games)," Hynes said. "So going into this match the girls were ready. They knew they didn't play well against Saline (last time). Winning was definitely nice for the team."
Lasecki paced Dexter with 11 kills, while Krips had nine kills and three blocks and Ryan eight kills.
Senior middle blocker Elizabeth Umstead (5-8) finished with three blocks, while Hanks had three blocks and Bradshaw 12 digs for the Dreadnaughts.
Lee ended up with 21 assists and three aces, while Lewis also had three aces for Dexter.
