Dexter's boys' basketball team lost to eventual champion Jackson 81-61 in a Class A district semifinal match-up Feb. 27.
The Dreadnaughts hosted the district.
"We fought and didn't roll over," said Dexter coach Randy Swoverland. "We battled hard."
It appeared as if the Vikings would blow the Dreadnaughts (9-13) out of the gym early in the contest taking a 21-8 first quarter lead.
Dexter, however, refused to lie down, fighting back to trail 37-23 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Dreadnaughts roared back, outscoring Jackson 21-17 cutting the Vikings' advantage to 54-44 entering the fourth stanza.
"They (Jackson) opened up a big lead early," Swoverland said. "We were able to cut their lead to 10 after three quarters."
In the fourth quarter, Dexter continued its momentum, taking the play to the suddenly shaky Jackson squad. With four and a half minutes left in the game, the Dreadnaughts had cut a 14-point halftime deficit to five points.
"They outscored us 17-2 the rest of the game," Swoverland said. "They shredded our press and made their free throws."
The Vikings answered Dexter's comeback with a rally of their own, outscoring the Dreadnaughts 27-17 in the fourth quarter for the night's final margin.
Senior guard T.J. Fenske led Dexter with 22 points, including six three-pointers.
Junior guard Ryan Lemasters added a double-double of 15 points and 11 assists, while senior center Dave Pisano (6-foot-5, 235 pounds) had eight points and 13 rebounds and freshman post player Dave LaMore (6-6, 195) eight points for the Dreadnaughts.
Junior forward Dan Newell (6-4) had seven points, while junior guard Steve Muchmore had one point for Dexter.
On Feb. 25, the host Dreadnaughts opened district play defeating South Lyon 64-46.
"We played very well in the first half," Swoverland said. "Defensively, we played well. We were able to score in transition. The game was never in doubt."
Dexter opened up a 14-6 first quarter lead.
At halftime, the Dreadnaughts continued building their advantage taking a commanding 28-10 lead.
In the third quarter, Dexter outscored the Lions 22-17 for a 50-27 margin entering the fourth frame.
In the fourth quarter, South Lyon outscored the Dreadnaughts 19-14 for the night's ending tally.
Pisano led Dexter with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Fenske also had 16 points, finishing 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
Newell ended up with 10 points, while Lemasters had seven points and 10 assists.
Sophomore guard Stefan Elslager and Muchmore each netted six points, while LaMore had two points and junior forward Travis Rize one point for the Dreadnaughts.
