†The debate team consists of seniors Omega Skeean and Alex Kish; juniors Mark Anderson, Natalie Rutherford, Jasmine Injejikiean, Caitlin Carmody, Jamila Odeh Sabreen, Chris Parr, Jacob Justice, Logan Powell and Cody Lewandorwski; sophomore, Matt Kass; and freshman Lukas Hosford.
"The Dexter Debate Team finished its season in the Quarterfinal round at the Michigan Interscholastic Forensic Association's Varsity State Championship Tournament," said Dexter High School teacher Debora Marsh, also the debate and forensics programs' director.
"It surpassed its ninth-place standing last year and ended the season on a high note by earning the quarterfinal berth."
The students also fared well at many invitational tournaments this year including winning the Junior Varsity Division at the Michigan State University High School tournament and the Jon Fitzgerald Memorial League, Marsh said.
"Students on the team advanced to a variety of elimination rounds at every tournament we attended," she said.
Individual students received speaker awards, including Omega Skeean's first-place award at the MSU tournament.
Marsh thanked the Dexter Educational Foundation for supporting the students.
"They have done a great job and have had a wonderful season and look forward to next year when they will be debating renewable energy," Marsh said.
