TOPS Open House

Dexter's non-profit organization Take Off Pounds Sensibly, or TOPS, is having an open house program at 7 p.m. April 2 at the Dexter Senior Center, 7720 Ann Arbor Street.
At 7:30 p.m. TOPS speaker and health educator Denise Williams will present "Just For The Health Of It!" The discussion will be about significant lifestyle changes that promote good health from both professional and personal viewpoints.
The TOPS group's 32 members, which collectively slimmed down by 100 lbs. in 2007 alone will be on hand to answer questions and share stories.

Tootsie Roll Drive 2008
Sweet tooths will once again be called upon to raise funds for Dexter's Knights of Columbus Council 2959. The sweets will be sold on sidewalks March 14, 15 and 16 to raise money for the Dexter Community Schools' special education programs. The remaining funds will be donated to the St. Louis School for the developmentally disabled near Chelsea.
Friends of Music concert
St. James Episcopal Church, 3279 Broad St., Dexter, will host its final concert of this year's series, "An Afternoon of Chamber Music With Friends," sponsored by The Friends of Music.
It will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday and will feature music of Ibert, Buffardin, Teleman and Rutter.
Performers include Debbie Ash, flute; Elaine Sargous, violin; Alice Graminger, cello; and Alice VanWambeke, piano and harpsichord.

Dexter Cooperative Nursery
The Dexter Cooperative Nursery has scheduled an open house for 5:30 p.m. March 13.
Christina Ladd, Dexter Co-op publicity coordinator, invited the public to "at least take a look."
"Our tuition is much less than typical preschools, which is a benefit with the current economy," she said.
The co-op's purpose is not only to teach children, but to involve parents in the learning process. The facility is open Monday through Friday, with classes in the morning and afternoon.
The teachers are excited about the upcoming event.
"The co-op is a place where children can learn and play while making new friends," said 3's teacher Pam Wittenberg.

Community Band concert
The Dexter Community Band will present its final concert for the 2007-08 season April 27.
The concerts are free to the public and take place at the Dexter High School Center for the Performing Arts, 2200 N. Parker Road.
Under the direction of William W. Gourley, the band includes members from many surrounding towns and is supported by Dexter Community Education.
Rehearsals are 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Dexter High School band room, and prospective members are encouraged to join.
Heart Screening
Chelsea Community Hospital, along with Beaumont Hospital and WXYZ-TV 7 are teaming up for a Health Edge Heart Check program at Chelsea Community Hospital from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The program is for high school athletes and features an in-depth heart screening with a medical history review, blood pressure assessment and an EKG all reviewed by a cardiologist.
