Champion competes at meet

On Jan. 20, the Champion Gymnastics Prep-Optional team competed in their first meet of the season at Red Cedar Gymnastics in Lansing.

Competing for Champion at the Bronze Level were Morgan Campbell, Bethany Hansen, Leeann Larkin, Paige Russell, and Emily Stone.
For the 10- through 11-year-old age group, Hansen won first place on beam (9.125) and floor (9.3) which earned her second place overall with a total score of 35.625. Larkin won fourth place on vault (8.7), bars (8.8) and floor (9.0) events and achieved a 35.2 score which earned her fourth place overall.
In the Bronze 12-year-old and older age group, Stone won second place on bars (8.75) and third on both beam (8.8) and floor (8.9) for a score of 34.85 that earned her third place overall in the division. Russell earned third-place medals on both vault (8.6) and bars (8.65), while Campbell earned a second place on beam (8.95). Together, the Champion Gymnastics Bronze team brought home the second place Bronze division trophy.
Erika Elliott and Julie Niethammer competed at the Silver Level for Champion.
In the 10- through 12-year-old age group, Elliott won first place overall with a total score of 35.6. Elliott received event medals for first place on bars (9.225), second on floor (9.2) and third on beam (8.675). Niethammer received fifth-place medals for both the bars (8.575) and floor (8.65) events.
Kayla Samuels, the only Champion gymnast competing at the Gold Level, earned third place overall in the 13-years-old and older age group with a total score of 34.725. Samuels won event medals for first place on floor (9.05) as well as third on both vault (8.7) and beam (8.725).
