Dexter defeats Huron

Dexter hockey defeated visiting New Boston Huron 6-1 last Saturday.

"We played hard," said Dexter coach Gary Howell. "The boys did a good job."
Sophomore Matt Stirling opened the scoring with a goal at 12:56 of the first period. Picking up an assist for the Dreadnaughts (11-11-2) was junior Chris Carrender.
At 10:12 of the first period, Stirling scored his second goal of the game giving Dexter a 2-0 advantage. Senior Hunter Lyons and junior Mike Clutterbuck recorded an assist on the goal for the Dreadnaughts.
In the second period, Clutterbuck increased Dexter's lead to 3-0 with a power play goal off an assist from senior Andrew Hatch at 2:55 of the frame.
Hatch made it 4-0 Dreadnaughts with a goal off an assist from senior Austin Shapiro and junior Adam Boonstra at 1:44 of the second period.
Huron scored at 12:40 of the third period as Adam Seog turned the lamp on for the Chiefs.
At 3:32 of the third period, Shapiro scored for a 5-1 Dexter lead. Junior Zach Lucas and Boonstra assisted on the goal.
Boonstra scored at 3:04 of the third period for the night's final margin. Shapiro and Lucas recorded an assist on the play for the Dreadnaughts.
Senior Nick Ceccolini earned the win in net for Dexter.
The Dreadnaughts out-shot Huron 31-25.
On Feb. 20, visiting Dexter beat Ypsilanti Lincoln 7-2.
In the first period, the Dreadnaughts received goals from junior Zeke Duke, sophomore John Brosch, freshman Chad Crow, Shapiro and Stirling, who had two goals.
Picking up assists in the six-goal first period for Dexter were senior Donnie Kennedy, Clutterbuck (two assists), Crow, Carrender (two assists), Hatch, Stirling, and Boonstra.
In the third period, Stirling scored for the Dreadnaughts off an assist from Clutterbuck.
Dexter out-shot the Railsplitters 34-33 for the contest.
Earning the win in next for the Dreadnaughts was Nick Ceccolini.
"We didn't play as good as the 7-2 score shows," Howell said. "We made our shots count. We were able to finish when we had the chance."
Dexter faced Jackson Lumen Christi in a pre-regional first round state playoff game last Tuesday after press deadline. If successful against the Titans, the Dreadnaughts would face the winner of Chelsea-Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard in the pre-regional final Thursday ay 6:30 p.m. Chelsea is hosting the pre-regional at the Arctic Coliseum.
