With the victory, the Dreadnaughts (17-4-1, 7-0 Southeastern Conference), ranked No. 10 in the state in Division III, are unbeaten in five of their last six games.

"It was a solid effort defensively," said Dexter coach Gary Howell. "It was a continuation of our game Wednesday (3-0 win over Saline Feb. 14). We were able to limit their shots. We gave up few quality scoring chances. We were able to keep them on the outside."

Dexter opened the scoring at 5:12 of the first period, as defenseman Bryan Staton hit the back of the net off an assist from fellow blue liner Hunter Lyons.

At 12:00 of the first period, forward Alex Johnston scored increasing the Dreadnaughts' lead to 2-0. Forward Nick Field and Lyons recorded assists on the play for Dexter.

After a scoreless second period, the Marauders' Bobby Williams scored a shorthanded goal at 3:21 of the third stanza, cutting the Dreads' advantage to 2-1.

Dexter answered, however, as Lyons scored a power play goal at 7:55 of the third period. Forward Justin Jack and Field picked up assists on the play for the Dreadnaughts.

Field scored an empty-net goal with three seconds left for the night's final margin.

Dexter out-shot Carlson 30-21 for the contest.

Earning the win in net for the Dreadnaughts was goaltender Tony Ceccolini.

"He played well," Howell said. "He made some pretty good saves early to keep us in the game."

On Feb. 14, visiting Dexter defeated Saline 3-0.

"I think our team as a whole did a good job defensively eliminating second shots," Howell said. "It was one of the most solid defensive games we've played all year. We need to continue to play that way to be successful."

Defenseman Austin Shapiro opened the scoring with a goal at 6:06 of the first period. Field and Lyons recorded an assist on the play for the Dreads.

With 10 seconds left in the first period, Alex Johnston scored off an assist from forward Connor Johnston and Field.

After a scoreless second period, Field, on the power play, turned the lamp on off an assist from forward Zach Stanislovaitis and Alex Johnston at 12:35 of the third frame for the night's ending tally.

The Hornets out-shot Dexter 31-18 for the game.

Recording the victory in net for the Dreadnaughts was goaltender Nick Ceccolini. The shutout was Ceccolini's second of the season.

"He had a solid game," Howell said.

Dexter next travels to Ann Arbor Huron for its regular season finale 6 p.m. Saturday at the Ice Cube.

The Dreadnaughts open the Division III state pre-regional playoffs taking on Jackson Lumen Christi 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Chelsea's Arctic Coliseum.

If successful against the Titans, Dexter would face the winner of Chelsea-Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard in the pre-regional final 6 p.m. March 1 at the Arctic Coliseum.

The regional final is 6:30 p.m. March 3 against the Dearborn Divine Child pre-regional winner. Besides the Falcons, other teams competing in the Divine Child pre-regional include Birmingham Detroit Country Day, Madison Heights Bishop Foley and Dearborn Heights Crestwood.
