Tankers dive into MISCA meet

Dexter's boys' swimming and diving team participated last Saturday in the Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association Invitational. The MISCA meet draws top swimmers from across the state in Divisions I, II, and III to compete against one another. Team scores are not tallied for the meet.

Dreadnaught swimmers achieved state cuts in several events and improved their qualifying times in others.
In the 200 freestyle, Robert Spiegel finished 16th and earned a state cut with a time of 1:49.95. Scott Dyer finished 37th in a season best 1:53.87.
Ben Steavenson recorded a state qualifying time of 2:07.16 in the 200 individual medley, placing 20th.
In the 50 freestyle, Joey Sayre matched his previous state cut time of 22.96 and came in 20th. Walker McHugh finished 29th at 23.18, just 0.19 second off the state cut.
Sayre finished 11th in the 100 freestyle, improving his state qualifying time to 49.81. Spiegel was 21st at 50.65, within 0.36 of the state cut-off. Taylor Verna finished 51st in a time of 52.70.
Steavenson swam a season-best 5:05.45 to finish 25th in the 500 freestyle.
In the 200 freestyle relay, McHugh, Sayre, Spiegel, and Dyer teamed up to finish 11th and lower their state qualifying time to 1:32.33.
Verna achieved his state cut in the 100 breaststroke, going 1:05.04 to finish 27th.
In the 400 freestyle relay, Dexter lowered its state qualifying time almost four seconds and finished 12th. Spiegel, Verna, Dyer, and Sayre combined to clock a time of 3:24.72.
The Dreadnaughts compete at the Southeastern Conference championships Friday at Ann Arbor Pioneer. Preliminaries are on Friday and finals are on Saturday, with competition beginning at noon on both days.
