For a team that has played at a high level all season, last Saturday's performance against visiting Pinckney was out of character for Dexter hockey.

The Dreadnaughts (15-4-1, 6-0 Southeastern Conference), who've been ranked as high as No. 9 in the state in Division III this year, entered the contest against the Pirates on a three-game winning streak. Prior to last Saturday, the Dreadnaughts were unbeaten in six of their last seven games. Against Pinckney, Dexter lost 4-2 at Veterans Arena.
"We just didn't show up," said Dexter coach Gary Howell. "We beat them (Pinckney) earlier in the year 4-3. They're a good team, but we had an off day."
Pinckney opened the scoring as Kenny Longeway turned the light on off an assist from J.T. Atkins at 3:15 of the first period.
In the second period, Dexter answered as forward Nick Field scored at 1:54 off an assist from forward Alex Johnston tying the game at 1-1.
Less than a minute later, Field scored his second goal of the night unassisted vaulting the Dreadnaughts into the lead 2-1.
In the third period, the Pirates dominated.
Pinckney tied the game with a power play goal at 6:56 of the frame by A.J. Eibler. Clay Ernsbergen recorded an assist on the play for the Pirates.
Thirty-two seconds later, Chris Zale scored the game-winner for Pinckney. Eibler and Ernsberger picked up an assist for the Pirates.
Pinckney scored an empty net goal with 1:30 left for the night's final margin.
The Pirates out-shot Dexter 57-18 for the contest. Normally, this season, the numbers have been reversed in the Dreadnaughts' favor.
Last Saturday, however, the night belonged to Pinckney.
"It was simply a lack of effort," Howell said. "Though we're skating hard, we took too many undisciplined penalties. Everybody has a bad game."
Dexter next travels to Gibraltar Carlson fora match up Saturday at6 p.m.
On Wednesday, the Dreadnaughts visit Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard for a game at 7:30 p.m.
On Feb. 24, Dexter travels to Ann Arbor Huron for a contest at 6 p.m.
