"We played a lot harder in this game," said Dexter coach Gary Howell. "We're still having a hard time finding the back of the net with the puck. But we wanted to get them back. They were the team that ended our unbeaten season."

Cabrini topped the Dreadnaughts 5-4 Jan. 6. Dexter entered the game 9-0.

After a scoreless first period, the Dreadnaughts (13-3-1, 5-0 Southeastern Conference), ranked No. 8 in the state in Division III, broke the stalemate as Mike Clutterbuck turned the light on unassisted at 4:19 of the second stanza.

At 12:44, Dexter's Zach Stanislovaitis scored increasing the Dreadnaughts' lead to 2-0. Picking up an assist on the goal for Dexter was Zach Lucas and Alex Demitriou.

Twenty-nine seconds into the third period, Cabrini's Brian Obrycki scored cutting the Dreadnaught lead to 2-1. Gary Astalos recorded an assist on the play for the Monarchs.

Alex Johnston answered for Dexter scoring off an assist from Mike Herter and Nick Field at 5:29 of the third period for the night's final margin.

The Dreadnaughts out-shot the Monarchs 44-19.

Earning the win in net for Dexter was freshman goaltender Tony Ceccolini.

"He played well," Howell said. "He was real solid. That was his first career varsity win."

On Jan. 24, the host Dreadnaughts lost to New Boston Huron 3-1.

Similar to Dexter's game against Cabrini, the Chiefs avenged an earlier loss to the Dreadnaughts (3-1 Jan. 10).

"They wanted it more than we did that night," Howell said. "They played hard. It wasn't good seeing our team come out and not give their best effort."

Huron opened the scoring as Robert Wilson turned the lamp on at 13:49 of the first period. Assisting on the goal for the Chiefs was Andy Mayrand and Spencer Winter.

Dexter tied the game with 1:25 remaining in the first period, as Nick Field scored on a power play. Hunter Lyons and Johnston picked up assists on the play for the Dreads.

In the second period, Billy Tarolli scored at 9:42 for Huron giving the Chiefs a 2-1 advantage. Jacob Spicer and Mike Tarolli recorded assists on the play for Huron.

At 5:34 of the second period, Wilson scored his second goal of the game for the ending margin. Niki Rita and Mayrand picked up assists on the goal for Huron.

Dexter out-shot the Chiefs 38-23 for the contest.

The Dreadnaughts next host Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard Saturday 7 p.m. at Veterans Arena.

On Feb. 10, Dexter hosts Pinckney 7 p.m. at Veterans Arena.

Prep Hockey

Dexter's prep hockey team played four games last week, finishing 2-1-1 during the stretch.

The host Dreadnaughts defeated the Jackson Junior Titans 7-3 last Sunday and host Orchard Lake St. Mary's 5-1 last Friday.

Dexter tied the visiting Bloomfield Hills Sabres 3-3 last Thursday.

The Dreadnaughts lost to host Novi Wild 6-3 Jan. 21.

Dexter next visits the Bloomfield Hills Sabres 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Troy Sports Center.

On Sunday, the Dreadnaughts host L'Anse Creuse noon at Chelsea's Arctic Coliseum.
