Dreads battle Mules

Dexter volleyball lost to host Temperance Bedford in a five-set marathon 25-22, 17-25, 19-25, 25-22, 8-15 last Thursday.

Senior middle blocker Camille Hanks (6-foot) led the Dreadnaughts (14-11-3, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) with 15 kills and three blocks.
Junior outside hitters Courtney Krips and Katie Ryan, along with sophomore outside hitter Colleen Lasecki each added eight kills for Dexter.
Senior defensive specialist Heather Bradshaw (5-8) topped the Dreadnaughts with 34 digs.
Senior setter Rosie Lee (5-5) had a team-high 24 assists and three aces. Junior setter Sonya Lewis added 22 assists for Dexter.
On Jan. 13, the Dreadnaughts tied for third place at the Tecumseh Invitational reaching the tournament semifinals before losing.
In pool play, Dexter defeated Ann Arbor Huron 25-11, 25-22 and the Tecumseh JV team 25-17, 25-15. The Dreadnaughts lost to Temperance Bedford 13-25, 12-25.
In the invite quarterfinals, Dexter defeated Jackson 25-14, 25-13.
In the semifinals, the Dreadnaughts lost to the host Indians 22-25, 22-25.
Hanks led the way for Dexter with 19 kills, eight blocks and six aces.
Ryan added 15 kills, while Bradshaw had 62 digs.
Lee finished with 47 assists and eight aces. Lewis ended up with 30 assists for the Dreadnaughts.
On Jan. 11, visiting Dexter defeated Southeastern Conference White Division opponent Ypsilanti Lincoln in three games 25-13, 25-19, 25-11.
Hanks was tops on the Dreadnaughts with eight kills.
Lasecki recorded seven kills and four aces, while Bradshaw had 15 digs.
Lee finished with 18 assists, while Lewis had 10 assists.
Krips had two aces for Dexter.
Dreadnaught coach Sarah Hynes said her squad has been playing better as of late.
"Our ball control, passing and defense are keeping us in games and helping us win matches," she said.
Hynes said Dexter needed to better its performance at the net.
"We need to improve upon hitting around blocks and work on our own blocking," she said.
Hynes said she's pleased with her squad's effort this season.
"Overall, the group is working hard," she said. "We're showing a desire to win. We're playing with intensity and not folding against any team. We continue to improve."
The Dreadnaughts next host Tecumseh Thursday at 7 p.m. Dexter will celebrate Parents Night.
On Saturday, the Dreadnaughts will travel to Ida to compete in its invitational at 8:30 a.m.
