Margaret L. Gordon, age 58, of Plainwell passed away suddenly on Jan. 11, 2007. Margy was born in Ann Arbor on Jan. 11, 1949 to Joseph & Betty (James) Schnebelt.
A dedicated first grade teacher, Margy retired in 2004 from Cooper Elementary School where she had taught since 1987. She taught in the Decatur Public Schools from 1973 to 1987 and prior to that she was a teacher in the Frankfurt Public Schools. Margy was an avid antique collector and enjoyed old cars, antique shows and camping.
Members of Margy's family include her husband of 31 years, Dennis, her children Dale & Connie Gordon of Otsego, Linda & Todd Rouleau of Otsego, her grandchildren James, Lane and Mollie Gordon, Sierra and Jack Rouleau, her brother James & Nancy Schnebelt of Whitmore Lake, her sister Susan & Charles Walters of Chelsea, and niece and nephews Sara, Mark and Jeff.
Margy has been cremated and there will not be any services. David D. Rank Grass Lake passed away Monday Jan. 15, 2007 at the Chelsea Community Hospital. He was 64.
He was born on Sept. 23, 1942 in Ypsilanti, the son of the late Donald and Jeannette (Sayre) Rank.
Mr. Rank had lived in the area since 1972. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1960. He received his B.A. from Albion College in 1964 and continued his education at Wayne State University. He worked for Kelsey-Hayes, Addison products and Kent Moore Inc. as a Director of Industrial Relations totaling 30 years. He became a realtor working for eight years with Hometown One Inc. in Chelsea. Passed on to him by his father, David loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a champion of educating young people about the wonders of the outdoors. He was a active member and former president of the Chelsea Rod and Gun Club.
On Sept. 11, 1965 he married Virginia E. Avison and she survives. He was preceded in death by his sister Karen J. Herter and she had three sons that were very dear to David and Ginny, James David Herter, his namesake, Christopher J. Herter, and Matthew E. Herter. Also surviving is one uncle James Sayre and numerous cousins, his mother and father-in-law, Larry (Virginia) Avison Jr, brother-in-laws, Lance (Judy) Avison, and Chris (Connie) Avison his children, three additional nephews; Charles C. Avison, Curtis Barnes and Patrick O. Avison.. Also a good friend Joan Birgy survives.
A celebration of his life was held Jan. 19, 2007 at the Chelsea Rod and Gun Club. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Chelsea Rod and Gun Club or the American Diabetes Association.
Lois Marie Wenk of Chelsea died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007 at Arbor Hospice Residence. She was 54.
She was born on Feb. 11, 1952 in Paducah, Ky., the daughter of Clifford and Geneva (Briney) Bolton. She has lived in the area most of her life and graduated from Chelsea High School in 1970. She worked for Chelsea Community Hospital for the past 17 years. She was a self taught Artist who delighted in painting meaningful images of interest for friends and family remembering her fondness of Lake Michigan's shoreline.
She married Charles M. Wenk in S. Lake Tahoe and had over 35 loving years together. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother of Chelsea; one sister Jennifer (Roland) Lubbinge of Elk Rapids; numerous nieces and nephews; two cousins, Barbara Golbinec of Toledo, and Edward Bolton of Kentucky; her mother-in-law Dorothy Wenk of Chelsea; brother and sister-in-laws, Donald and Paul Wenk, Marty (Carl) Hause, and Jean (Tom) Winans, Irene (Jim) Poley and her dog Otto. Also surviving are many special and dear friends. The family would like to give a special thank you to all of the Chelsea Hospital staff and administration personnel; and the University of Michigan Cancer Center. She was preceded in death by her Father Clifford Bolton, and her father-in-law Erwin Wenk.
Funeral services were Jan. 24, 2007 at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home Chelsea with Pastor Doris Sparks officiating. Burial followed at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Chelsea Community Hospital or University of Michigan Hospitals Cancer Center.
Jeffrey Scott Dixon of Tecumseh died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007 at Foote Hospital. He was 27. He was born on July 16, 1979 in Ann Arbor the son of James Robert and Karen Marie (Weitlauf) Dixon.
Jeff is a 1998 graduate of Chelsea High School where he enjoyed playing soccer. He continued his education as a full-time student at Schoolcraft College and just began his final semester in Culinary Arts. Jeff was a musician and band member who enjoyed music as well as skateboarding and snow boarding. Most of all he enjoyed spending time and creating havoc with his family, especially his nephew Joshua and niece Veronica.
In addition to his parents, Jeff is survived by one brother Michael Dixon of Ann Arbor; two sisters Monica (Dave) Andrews and Katherine Dixon, both of Tecumseh. Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral Mass for Jeff will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Adrian with Fr. Bob Schramm as celebrant. Visitation will take place Sunday, from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the Church.
