Dexter Community Schools is a good school district as evidenced by the outstanding academic, extra curricular, and athletic accomplishments of its students. Good, however, is not the standard by which we want to be known. We want to be great.

In order to be great, we need a plan. That plan will be engineered during the next several months by individuals who represent various facets of our school and community. This group will review our vision and mission statements and our guiding principles and values. They will also develop indicators of success in addition to identifying the areas on which we need to focus in order to become great. Timelines to report progress will also be established.
Dr. Michael Wilmot of the Michigan Leadership Institute will facilitate this process. The first meeting has been set for 7 p.m. Feb. 27 in the cafeteria at Cornerstone Elementary. The agenda items for that evening include: task force charge; overview of planning concepts and elements; Board, administrative and staff roles in the planning process; external and internal scans of the environment; needs and expectations of stake holder groups; and district opportunities and threats. Additional meetings have been scheduled for March 11 and April 8.
