The Dreadnaughts (3-7, 3-4 Southeastern Conference) fell behind 12-5 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, the Hornets outscored Dexter 12-4 taking a 24-9 advantage into the locker room.

In the third quarter, the Dreadnaughts scored seven points, while Saline recorded 13 points for a 37-16 lead entering the fourth frame.

In the fourth quarter, the Hornets outscored Dexter 9-5 for the final margin.

Senior Kelsey Johnson (5-9) led the Dreadnaughts with 12 points.

Senior forward Celia Kuzon (5-9) added four points for Dexter.

Despite the loss, Dreadnaught coach Mike Bavineau remained positive.

"The one good part of the game was that we didn't roll over," he said. "We continued to scrap. I was proud of the way we played and never gave up."

On Jan. 8, host Dexter defeated Ann Arbor Pioneer 40-25.

"We're starting to play better," Bavineau said. "We're playing four solid quarters of basketball now."

The Dreadnaughts broke out to an 8-2 first quarter lead against the Pioneers.

In the second quarter, both clubs scored eight points. At the half, Dexter led 16-10.

In the third quarter, the Dreadnaughts started clicking on offense, outscoring Ann Arbor 11-4 taking a 27-14 margin into the fourth stanza.

In the fourth quarter, Dexter outscored the Pioneers 13-11 for the night's final outcome.

Junior Amy Baldus sparked the Dreadnaughts with 12 points.

Kuzon and Johnson each added nine points, while Sherry Gamble had six points.

Juniors Hadley Stoll and Jean Snyder each chipped in two points for Dexter.

The Dreadnaughts next travel to Ann Arbor Huron for a game Thursday at 7 p.m.

On Jan. 24, Dexter hosts Ypsilanti Lincoln at 7 p.m.

JV Basketball

Dexter's JV girls' basketball team lost to host Saline 34-30 last Thursday. Only their second loss of the season, the Dreadnaughts (8-2) were unable to convert inside baskets early on, falling behind 8-1 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Dexter regrouped outscoring the Hornets 8-4 trailing 12-9 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Saline broke out for a 28-18 advantage heading into the fourth period.

In the fourth quarter, the Dreadnaughts cut the lead to four points, but could get no closer.

Sarah Moir and Ali Krips led Dexter each with seven points. Krips also hauled down a team-high 11 rebounds.

Elly Mioduszewski added six points, while Caitlyn Rize had four points for the Dreadnaughts.

Anbiel Sanderson-Lee led Saline with eight points.

"Saline is a very good all around team," said Dexter coach Rob Leadley. "They are the best defensive team we have faced this season."

Dexter player Katie McDonald said the game caught the Dreadnaughts off guard.

"But we tried to play tough throughout the game no matter what the score," she said.

On Jan. 8, host Dexter defeated Ann Arbor Pioneer 40-26.

The Dreadnaughts raced out to a 12-5 first quarter lead.

At halftime, Dexter continued leading 20-11.

In the third quarter, the Dreadnaughts outscored the Pioneers 6-5 for a 26-16 advantage entering the fourth quarter.

In the fourth frame, Dexter outscored Ann Arbor 14-10 for the contest's ending tally.

"We played really well together," said Dexter player Kari Niethammer. "We played much better than during our loss to Adrian. We played aggressive defense and had a lot of steals."

Krips led the Dreadnaughts with nine points and five rebounds.

Kristi Hughes and Rize each netted eight points, while Mioduszewski had five points.

Niethammer finished with four points, while Moir had five assists. Natalie Rutherford added eight rebounds and three steals, while Serena Bidwell had three assists and three steals for Dexter.
