The father of Dexter swimming, Dave Plawchan, started the evening reminiscing about the changes in the Dexter swim community over the past 22 years and how some traditions have held on throughout the years. One tradition he carried on was handing out plaques to "retiring" senior parents. Another was the annual candy bar award to all swimmers who swam season-best times at the last dual meet against Saline.
Bergen introduced this year's team members and awarded varsity letters, scholar athlete awards, Southeastern Conference championship certificates, and All-State awards to the team.
Receiving their varsity letters for the first time in the 2007 season were: Cecilia Burke, Cassandra Cowhy, Lisa Crompton, Casey Edwards, Morgan Eisele, Lindsey Gagneau, Paige Garwood, McKenzie Goffee, Jennifer Himle, Emma Keen, Marne Little, Kiersten Lorensen, Cameron Maisch, Nicole Minzey, Caroline Munzel, Laura Steavenson, and Courtney Young.
All-SEC awards are given to those swimmers scoring in the top three times in each event. Awards went to: Kim Melinsky, Amanda Espinoza, Lauren Daugherty, Jessie Boren, Morgan Quist, Emily Diepenhorst, Alyssa Robinson, Jennarose Rolfes, Sabrina Letwin, Nicole Chalou, Edwards, Steavenson, Garwood, Young and Eisele.
All-State awards are for those swimmers finishing in the top eight positions at the state meet and an award went to Lauren Daugherty for her sixth-place finish in the 50 freestyle.
For 2007, the Freshman Award went to Edwards, the Sophomore Award went to Quist, Diepenhorst received the Junior Award and the Senior Award went to captain Boren.
The Breakout Performance of the Year Award went to freshman Lisa Crompton for her outstanding backstroke swim at the state meet (scoring in 15th place).
The Most Improved Swimmer Award went to sophomore Chalou for her huge improvement from her freshman season and contribution to the team.
Espinoza received the Erin Utley Spirit Award for desire and dedication to the team.
Melinsky received the 2007 Coaches Award and sophomore Daugherty received the MVP award for her performances throughout the year.
Dive coach Manny Billegas awarded the Most Improved Diver Award to freshman Burke.
The Blood and Sweat Awards were given to freshmen Eisele and Young for their continued determination and drive through out the season.
The Dreadnaughts ended the 2007 season 11- 1 in dual meets. They placed first in the SEC White Division for the 10th consecutive year and placed 11th at the Division 2 state meet.
