Patricia L Lane

Chelsea

Patricia L. Lane of Chelsea and Adrian passed away at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008. She was 51.

She was born the daughter of Richard "Jack" and Ruth M. (Burrows) Lane on Aug. 1, 1956. Patty loved her family, traveling with them all over the world and sailing on the Great Lakes. She excelled in Special Olympics and loved to bowl and swim. Patty enjoyed going to camp and eventually became a camp counselor. She also enjoyed playing the piano, the guitar and photography. Patty did wonderful needlework, crocheting and rug hooking. She will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to know her.

Patty is survived by her parents and her two sisters Sue (John) Williams, and Judy (Fred) Feldkamp. Also surviving are her nephews Geoffrey, James, Thomas and nieces Elizabeth, Julie, Melissa, Rebecca, and one great niece Audrey.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian.

Garnet Whitley

Chelsea

Garnet Whitley of Chelsea passed away at her home surrounded by her family. She was 82.

She was born the daughter of Chester and Hazel (Higgins) Hudson. On Oct. 2, 1943 she married John F. Whitley and he preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1985. Garnet enjoyed the holidays, cooking family dinners and being with her family.

She is survived by her children Vicki (Thomas) Nowak, James Whitley, Wayne (Janet) Whitley, Gail (John) Stalker, Dorene (Michael) Johnson, Brian (Trudi) Whitley, LouAnn (Kurt) Wing, Lynne (Peter) Elliott and Mark (Laura) Whitley. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, as well as a brother James Hudson and sisters Eloise Depew, Joyce Kovachevich and Carolyn Graham. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son and her brother Karrol Hudson.

Funeral services were Saturday at the Dexter United Methodist church with Dr. Matthew J. Hook officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Dexter United Methodist Church.

Elton F. Guenther

Chelsea

Elton F. Guenther of Chelsea died Thursday evening, Jan. 10, 2008 at Chelsea Community Hospital. He was 82.

He was born on April 28, 1927 in Chelsea, the son of Ernest W. and Otilla W. (Fritz) Guenther. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. Elton proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. For 22 years he was employed at Argus Camera. He then went to work for the Chrysler Proving Grounds for 17 years, retiring in 1987. Fishing and gardening were his favorite pastimes. He was a member of the Chelsea Rod and Gun Club, and was former Commander of the American Legion Post of Chelsea. He was also a member and former president of the F.O.E. (Eagles).

Elton (AL) will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Ruth; three children, Sue Ryan of Georgia, Jan (Basil) Ciaramitaro of Houghton Lake, and Randy (Dana) Guenther of Chelsea; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Survivors also include three brothers; Ralph Guenther of Chelsea, Earl (Pat) Guenther of Jackson, and Dean (Sheri) Guenther of Gregory; also one sister-in-law Gwen Guenther of Florida. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Paul and Roy Guenther, and one sister Ruth Schanz.

Memorial services were Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home with The Rev. Karen Schulte officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove East Cemetery, Chelsea.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ, or Chelsea Community Hospital. The Guenther family is grateful for the excellent care and kindness given by Chelsea Community Hospital and Chelsea Retirement Community.

Chester J. Bowling, Sr.

Ann Arbor

Chester J. Bowling Sr. of Ann Arbor died Jan. 14, 2008 at his home after a short illness. He was 83.

He was a lifetime resident of Washtenaw County. He is survived by his wife Carol Ann (Cary), a sister, Harriet Ashbay (Lewis), and sons William (Debbie), Chester, Jr., (Margaret DíAnieri), and Thomas (Kathy Wynn). He is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at St. Andrewís Episcopal Church, 306 N. Division St., Ann Arbor. No flowers please. Donations may be made to St. Andrewís or Arbor Hospice.

Rosalyn Blackburn

Chelsea

Rosalyn Blackburn of Chelsea passed from this life to her next Jan. 14 with family by her side. She was 95.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Stanley and Rosalia (Grapka) Soja, one brother Joseph (Roseanne) Soja and one sister Wanda Soja, her first husband Sylvester Gumm and her second husband Neal Blackburn. She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (Richard) McDermitt, Lorraine (Jim) Periord and two sons, William Blackburn and Thomas (Lilly) Blackburn, 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Her interests were as varied as the friendships she enjoyed and cherished. She will be missed.

Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 20 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, 901 North Main, Chelsea. A rosary will be prayed that evening at 7:30 p.m. Memorial services will be held Monday, Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetary, Chelsea.
