Dreadnaught coach Sarah Hynes said her squad is improving as the season progresses.

"They're coming around and learning to play together as a team," she said. "They're playing more consistent throughout the long tournaments."

At the 11-team Saline invite, Dexter (10-8-3) lost to Tecumseh 25-16, 12-25, 10-15 in the semifinals.

In the quarterfinals, the Dreadnaughts defeated rival Chelsea 25-21, 25-19.

In pool play, Dexter beat Clinton 22-25, 25-10, 25-22 and Ypsilanti Lincoln 25-11, 25-12, 25-11.

Individually for the Dreadnaughts, senior middle blocker Camille Hanks (6-foot) led the squad with 28 kills and seven blocks.

Setter Rosie Lee finished with a team-high 53 assists, while junior Sonya Lewis had 26 assists and 13 aces.

Senior Heather Bradshaw had a team-high 53 digs, while Colleen Lasecki had 24 digs for Dexter.

On Dec. 28, the Dreadnaughts competed in the 16-team Temperance Bedford Invitational, tying for third and falling in the tournament semifinals.

Dexter lost to Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central in the semifinals 23-25, 19-25.

In pool play, the Dreadnaughts defeated Mason 22-25, 25-14, 15-8, Walled Lake Central 26-24, 25-13 and the host Mules 25-18, 25-23. Dexter lost to Jackson Northwest 17-25, 19-25.

Individually for the Dreadnaughts, Hanks paced the team with 26 kills.

Lee added a team-high 62 assists and 12 aces, while Bradshaw had 70 digs. Megan Dinser recorded a team-high seven blocks, while Katie Ryan had nine aces for Dexter.

"If we can pass effectively, that's a key for us," Hynes said. "We're not real big. We need to work on our blocking and getting all hitters involved in the offense. We also need to have a better balanced attack offensively."

The Dreadnaughts next travel to Southeastern Conference White Division foe Ypsilanti Lincoln for a match Thursday at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Dexter will compete in the Tecumseh Invitational at 8:30 a.m.

On Jan. 18, the Dreadnaughts will visit Temperance Bedford for a contest at 7 p.m.
