The Dreadnaughts ended up with 145.5 points.
The host Hornets captured the 13-team meet with 202 points. Battle Creek Harper Creek was second with 176 points.
"The team wrestled well today," said Dexter coach Craig McCalla. "We lost some matches by mental mistakes, but we will work on correcting those in the practice room."
Finishing first individually for Dexter was Bret Marsh at 112 pounds. The junior, who was 4-0 on the day, defeated Kurtis Brackman from Pittsford by pin in 1:37 for the tournament title. With the win, Marsh recorded his 100th career victory.
"Bret was aggressive and worked his moves from all positions," McCalla said.
At 103, Dreadnaught Dan Flowers placed second, losing to Jonesville's Andrew Barrett 6-0 in the final. Overall, Flowers was 2-1 for the meet.
"Dan wrestled well for us all day long," McCalla said. "As a freshman, Dan expects a lot from himself and he is proving he can handle the competition."
At 119, Mitch Crawford finished third for Dexter. He beat Sand Creek's Alan Constable 5-2 in the consolation final. Crawford ended up 3-1 on the day.
"Mitch wrestled well," McCalla said. "He was close to making the finals. He just ran out of time."
At 125, Zeb Klapperich placed third for the Dreadnaughts. He pinned Woodhaven's Tony Craddock in 4:47 in the consolation final. He finished 4-1 overall.
"Zeb has turned a corner and is wrestling with confidence right now," McCalla said. "He is constantly attacking his opponents."
At 171, Scott Santoro placed third for Dexter. He pinned Sand Creek's Kelby Lambka in 24 seconds in the consolation final. Santoro was 4-1 on the day, with his only loss coming against the eventual champion.
"Scott is using solid fundamental wrestling to beat his opponents," McCalla said.
Mike Swager finished third at 189 for the Dreadnaughts. He defeated Sand Creek's Scott VanSice 3-2 in the consolation final. Swager was 3-1 for the meet.
"Mike is a patient wrestler," McCalla said. "He waits for his opponents to make a mistake and then capitalizes."
At heavyweight, Corey Chamberlain placed third for Dexter. He pinned Brandon Wheeler from Reading in 1:10 in the consolation final. Chamberlain ended up 3-1 overall.
"Corey works hard when he is on his feet," McCalla said. "He is good at getting his opponents into vulnerable positions."
Also competing and wrestling well for the Dreadnaughts last Saturday were Chase Stevens, Tommy Owens, Mark Bertsos, Larry Gunderson, Michael Campbell and Jake Stacey.
On Dec. 21, Dexter defeated host Ann Arbor Pioneer 45-28 in a dual match.
"We wrestled well as a team tonight," McCalla said. "All of our wrestlers wrestled to the end. We scored a lot of points right before the end of the period and two of our pins were in the last 15 seconds of the match. Coach (Andrew) Parker and I stress to the guys the importance of wrestling until you hear the whistle blow.
"Our wrestlers came out aggressive and continued to attack their opponents. Coach Parker and I were happy with their efforts."
The match began at 189, with Swager pinning Jeremy Shelton in 5:53.
"Mike was actually down by a point with only seven seconds left when he pinned his opponent," McCalla said. "That was Mike's first match at 189 this year and he did a great job. It was a great first match for Mike. It showed his determination."
At 215, Stacey lost by pin to Ryan Connors in 1:00.
Chamberlain pinned Dan Henning in 57 seconds at heavyweight.
"When you make a mistake wrestling Corey, he will beat you," McCalla said.
Flowers lost by pin in 3:48 to Tommy Brosnahan at 103.
"Dan was wrestling well until he made a mistake and his opponent caught him trying to roll through," McCalla said. "Dan's a smart wrestler and he knew what he did the moment he came off the mat."
At 112, Marsh pinned Brian Bickley in 5:49.
Crawford pinned Devon Brodie in 1:48 at 119.
Klapperich defeated Dan Crowley 13-12 at 125.
"Zeb wrestled in one of the most exciting matches of the night," McCalla said. "He scored on an escape in the final seconds of the match (for win)."
Dexter's Brandon Saunders lost by pin in 1:28 to Sean Brodie at 130.
Owens lost 12-5 to Will Jackson at 135.
Bertsos lost 10-6 to Kevin Phelps at 140.
"Tommy Owens and Mark Bertsos wrestled two hard fought matches, but came up short in the end," McCalla said. "Both Tommy and Mark did many things right, but they wrestled some good competition."
Dreadnaught Joe Spurr pinned Koumei Tsunoda in 3:00 at 145.
Gunderson pinned Justin Bose in 2:42 at 152.
"This is Larry's first year, but it's hard to match his strength and drive," McCalla said of Gunderson.
At 160, Campbell pinned David Abbott in 5:26.
"Michael never gives up and when the third period comes he is able to keep a high level of intensity," McCalla said.
At 171, Santoro lost a 15-5 major decision to Will Moyer.
Dexter next hosts Ypsilanti Lincoln Thursday at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, the Dreadnaughts travel to Durand to participate in its invitational at 10 a.m.
On Jan. 18, Dexter hosts perennial state power Temperance Bedford at 6 p.m.
