Walter Ray Zeeb of Chelsea died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 in his home. He was 74,
Zeeb was born April 8, 1932 in Chelsea, the son of Walter M. and Ruth E. (Ray) Zeeb. He graduated from Chelsea High School, class of 1950. He served in the US Marine Corp for three years. Mr. Zeeb started working at Chelsea Greenhouse when he was 8 years old. He and his wife Sandy owned and operated Chelsea Greenhouse from 1960-2002. He was a longtime member of Chelsea Fair Board and Chelsea Kiwanis Club. Mr. Zeeb was named Chelsea Citizen of the Year in 2001. He was a counselor for Cassidy Lake Technical School, United Way Chairman, member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, as well as the American Legion and the Rod & Gun Club. He received many awards from organizations and the community for outstanding service.
On Oct. 6, 1956, he married Sandy Orosz at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea, and she survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Diane (Richard) Drumb of Detroit; one brother, Rev. Fr. Charles Zeeb of Clinton Township; three sisters, Margaret Novess of Jackson, Rose Williams of Jackson, Doris (Bobby) Dawkins of New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, January 9 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea, with Rev. Fr. Charles Zeeb officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Chelsea.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Louis School, Great Lake Hospice or Chelsea Senior Center.
Ronald G. Hubbell, 56, passed away Dec. 13, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston. He was born Feb. 27, 1950, in Ypsilanti, the son of Dorothy and Cecil Hubbell.
Mr. Hubbell is survived by his wife, Bonnie, five sons; Robert (Deana) of Virginia, Timothy (Therese), Thomas (Marissa), Matthew (Miranda), and Philip (Brooke) all of Texas; his mother, Dorothy of Tucson, Ariz., and 13 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Dorothy June Watkinsof Dexter and formerly of Dearborn Heights passed away at home surrounded by her family on Jan. 5, 2007. She was 77.
She was born the daughter of John and Marcella (Fuller) Mearnic on June 8,1929 in Tunnel Hill, Penn. On Nov. 29, 1947 she marriedCharles Watkins and he survives.
Mrs. Watkins was proud to be a homebody, she loved to cook, grow roses, and take care of her family. Her children said"every day was Sunday dinner."
She also was very devoted in helping with the careof her granddaughter Stephanie. In addition to her husband, She is survived by her children; Judith (Dennis) Ferrell of Dexter, Guy C. (Roxanne) Watkins of Indian River, Mich., Patricia A. Watkins of Dexter,Deborah K. Watkins of Whitmore Lake, Kathy C. (John) Carroll of Chelsea, and Connie M. (Marc) Toma of Dexter. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren with one on the way; and her sisters Mary Kietur, Shirley (Jim) Gibson, and Marilyn (Jim) Knolfski. In addition to herparents, Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her brother George Mearnic; sisters Julia Henry and Betty Wolfe. She was also preceded in death byher daughter-in-law Paula Watkins.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at Old St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Jan. 9 with Fr. Gerald Gawronski officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association or the Arbor Hospice Foundation.
Rudolph H. Ottoman of St. Johns, formerly of Grass Lake, passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007 at the Hazel Findlay Country Manor. He was 91.
He was born May 9, 1915 in Hamburg, Mich., the son of Hugo and Emilie (Hanneschlager) Ottoman. He had lived in the area all his life and was a member of K of C and St. Mary Catholic Church. Mr. Ottoman was a set-up man at Federal Screw in Chelsea for 40 plus years. He was a veteran of World War II serving in Germany and France for five years. He enjoyed baseball games, hunting, fishing and trapping.
He was married to Bernice (Dambrun) Ottoman and she preceded him in death on June 1, 2001. Surviving are 3 brothers Joseph (Dorothy) Ottoman of Chelsea, Albert Ottoman of Ann Arbor and Walter (madeline) Ottoman of Chelsea. 1 sister Mary (Thomas) Kitlel of Ann Arbor. 1 sister-in-law Blanche Ottoman of Chelsea. Also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bernice, 2 brothers Edward and Clarence Ottoman, and his sister-in-law Kathleen Ottoman.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church Chelsea. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Chelsea. Expressions of sympathy can be made to St. Louis School or St. Mary Catholic Church.
Delores E. "Del" Claus of Chelsea passed away on Jan. 7, 2007 at her home. She was 83.
She was born on March 21, 1923 in Detroit, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Schankin) LaButte. She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth, and her loving husband of 49 years, Herbert. Together they lived in Detroit and at Lake Nettie near Hawks, Mich., where she enjoyed baking for others, remembering special occasions through her correspondence, and the warmth of a large extended family. She was an active member of Hawks Lutheran Church and later joined Chelsea First United Methodist Church. Del is survived by her three children, James (Jane) Claus of Grand Rapids, Janet (Kevin Madden) Bisset of Scranton, Penn., and Nancy (Steve) Mauti of Chelsea, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday Jan. 11, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joy Barrett officiating. Expressions of sympathy can be made to First United Methodist Church or Faith In Action.
