ROCKHOUND BASICS: 2 p.m.
Sunday, June 22. Discover what you can learn about
ancient Michigan from looking at a rock. Geologist Larry
Bean will show you how to "read" the story told by rocks
and help you to identify specimens at a local quarry. We
will meet at the Discovery Center before driving to the
quarry to do some collecting.

"Glaciers and Western
Washtenaw" walk will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Park
Lyndon North, 18801 N. Territorial Rd., in Lyndon
Township. Participants will learn about mile-high ice
and learn to walk on prehistoric kames, kettles and
snake-like eskers - get the wetlands to quake and shake.
The walk is all on dry trails. The program and park

Memorial Day Parade
The annual parade is hosted by the Dexter American
Legion Post 557 and this year’s festivities starts at 10
a.m.

Dexter-Ann Arbor Run
The MedSport 10K is great for serious runners and
not-so-serious runners (and walkers) who want a little
more than a 5K but not the whole half. The course
features some of the most beautiful stretches of Huron
River Drive.
The event is now staged in downtown Ann Arbor, near the
intersection of Ann Street and Main Street. That’s also
where the event finishes, so 10K runners no longer need
to catch the bus!
The race will start promptly at 8:10 am.

Ice Cream Social
You know that spring is officially here when the Dexter
Area Chamber of Commerce’s Ice Cream Social hits
Monument Park. This year’s event will be from 11:00 am
to 5:00 pm. This event is a great favorite with Dexter
families. As in past years, the park will be filled with
games the kids can play, ice cream, pizza and soda pop,
face painting, clowns, petting farm, pony rides, wagon
rides through downtown, and craft booths.

Golf Outing
The 16th Annual Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce Golf
Outing promises to be the best golf outing yet with
magnificent Hole-in-One prizes. Team or individual golf
spots ($100 per golfer) are still available as well as
the opportunity for your business to become a Golf Hole
Sponsor ($100), Beverage Cart Sponsor ($200 - limit 2),
or a Golf Cart Sponsor ($500 - limit 2). Donated prizes
are welcome for door prizes and raffle prizes ($100 or
greater value).

Dexter Daze An annual event that draws visitors from all
over the area, Dexter Daze includes numerous craft
booths, two days of entertainment for kids and adults,
children’s rides and tons of food! Dexter Daze would not
be complete without a fully packed Entertainment
Schedule, and this year is no exception. Dexter Daze
offers entertainment for the whole family. The
entertainment schedule for 2008 has not yet been
established.

Apple Daze
Fall naturally brings many people to Dexter to enjoy the
Huron River and Metro Parks as well as our hundred year
old cider mill. Monument Park is the focal point for
this event where you can buy apples, caramel apples, and
apple cider, enter an apple pie eating contest, take a
hayride or browse the craft booths. Craft Booths open
at 10:00 am, Games and Activities 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Victorian Christmas Deck the halls with gifts from our
Victorian Christmas Festival. Friday evening will be a
Christmas tree lighting and community sing in Monument
Park. Saturday will feature the Fred Schmid Memorial
Holiday Parade at 10:30 am down Main Street then Santa
will be in the park to hear the little ones’ special
requests. Crafters, carolers, and musicians as well as
hot cocoa and cookies will be available. Relax and enjoy
Christmas shopping, craft demonstrations and carolers in
the Victorian tradition in our decorated downtown.
Hours: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. Sunday will feature events as
well.
